TRIBES Vengeance Gold

VU Games sends news that TRIBES Vengeance is gold, and Irrational's installment in the multiplayer shooter series is due to ship on October 5:
Tribes®: Vengeance Goes Gold!

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 21, 2004) – Vivendi Universal Games announced today that their upcoming PC first-person action game Tribes: Vengeance has gone gold and will ship to retail stores in the United States on October 5th. A multiplayer demo for the game will be made available online before the game is released.

A single-player trial version for Tribes: Vengeance and more information about the game can be found at the official website: http://www.tribesvengeance.com.

In Tribes: Vengeance gamers become immersed in a roiling galactic thriller. Throughout the game, the player catches glimpses of myriad interrelated stories that unfold behind-the-scenes and is given the opportunity to experience the full scope of the single-player story through multiple viewpoints and characters. Utilizing the all-new Vengeance Engine powered by Unreal™ technology, the world is brought to life with characters that have facial expressions and fully-realized personalities, vehicles that kick up dust as they pass by, and weapons that display spectacular effects. Tribes: Vengeance will also build upon the Tribes series’ legendary online multiplayer action by continuing to focus on team-oriented goals and fluid movement. Particular focus is being given to making Tribes: Vengeance easily accessible to the video game modification (MOD) community. Irrational Games and VU Games have worked together to ensure that Tribes: Vengeance’s game modification tools are easily accessible and robust.

The bomber was powerful, but honsetly, not many players use it on a classic server, and it required a bomber AND pilot.

Err, on the server I played on (Big Monkey's Treehouse), the Bomber was used gratuitously. As for the Shrike requiring some skill, yeah, it did. Not much, but a little. Unfortunately, none of the other vehicles required skill. Tanks were commonly used to sit on flags, chaining/running over incoming cappers. Any HOs that tried to destroy it would be promptly dealt with by the tank's mortars. That, or Shrikes on defense would promptly run over the HO. Speaking of which...

Nothings more fun than a vehicle chasing you down only to be forced to crash or lose control with a good shocklance.

Unfortunately, when a Shrike runs you over behind while you chase/cap, there's not much warning. If you play LD, it's not too hard to SL incoming Shrikes. When you are skiing/flying at 300 MPH, it gets a tad bit more difficult.

Also, I take it you were an HPB? On the server I played on, most of the players were LPBs and nobody had over 200 ms ping.

The vehicles in T2 where not overpowered. Actually the bomber and tank in T.V is far more powerful because they are so easy to use. At least in T2 you needed some skill to use the shriek. The bomber was powerful, but honsetly, not many players use it on a classic server, and it required a bomber AND pilot. In Tribes Vengeance you can bomb and spam the enemy as the pilot. At least T2 forced the cooperation.

I think the vehicles annoy T1 players especially those hardcore lpb players that are so use to just dominating on pubs. With vehicles and a skilled player, an lpb can get shot down or rammed to death by someone even with a slow connection. And if you learn how to play within a game with vehicles, you can learn how to avoid them or make a run without getting slaughtered.

Nothings more fun than a vehicle chasing you down only to be forced to crash or lose control with a good shocklance. You see many t1 players never took the time to learn a lot of those "new" skill tactics in T2. Classic gives me the T1 stuff and more. Thats all. T1 is still a good game.

(Hardcore T1 players hardly even use vehicles, turrets etc its some kind of Im too cool to use that pride thing or something)

I played T1 and T2 extensively. I never pubbed in T2 base because it simply wasn't fun. T2 Classic was a lot better, but the vehicles were really very annoying. It has nothing to do with being "too cool." It has to do with the fact that the T2 vehicles are overpowered. Getting bomber spam, tank mortar spam or getting run over by Shrikes while chasing a capper doesn't add anything to gameplay. As for turrets, T1 players have no problems with turrets, as long as they don't become a focus. In T1, the turrets were relatively weak, but they did make a big difference if deployed and maintained skillfully. In T2, the turrets were (like the vehicles) overpowered, with incredibly high damage and accuracy. Thus, they became a focus. T1 players like fighting other players, not turrets.

As for veterans being T1 only, I didn't say that. I just said that the majority of veterans on Tribalwar are T1 vets.

Well I disagree with jarek. Tribes is about T1 and T2. Dont believe every veteran is a Tribes 1 only fan crap.

Many T1 only fans who where upset by T2 on its initial launch where so upset they never continued to play T2 even after the last patch and mods. (Base T2 did suck out of the box due to bugs, hardware requirements and the fact that the devs slowed the game down too much for what most T1 players preffered)

At that time two camps formed in the Tribes community. The hard core T1 player that was so upset with T2 on its release that they never returned to play the game on a regular basis even after all the intial patches and mods.

The other camp (that where also T1 vets and still enjoy T1) stuck it out with T2 and avidly play it. T2 is actually a very good game WITH the last patch and mods like classic T2. Classic T2 brought the speed of T1 back to T2.

Basically T1 had large bases minimal vehicles and the base gameplay (other than mods) was focused more on fast capping and twitch skill defending (sniping, chaingunning etc)

T2 brought more vehicles into the gameplay, some new weapons and packs. T2 also brought more of the strategy and teamplay element to Tribes. The great thing about T2 classic, is that it provides a VERY good blend of T1 AND T2 gameplay. You have the fast twitch gameplay in addition to the strategy teamplay gameplay.

Dont listen to the T1 is better than T2 crap. I would try them both out because they are both great games to play in preperation for T.V. T.V. is a bit more like T1 base gameplay with some vehicles, but there are elements that come from T2, especially the vehicles (Hardcore T1 players hardly even use vehicles, turrets etc its some kind of Im too cool to use that pride thing or something)

and yes, I played T1 extensively, but I am now an avid T2 classic fan.

if u want to read actual decent writeups from gamers.. check out the official forums.. and do NOT go to TRibalwar. that place is rife with idiot kids and cowboys.. man that place sucks.

=\ If you want opinions from gamers in general, go to the official forums. If you want reviews from Tribes veterans (most of whom despise T2), go to Tribalwar. Just be sure not to say that T2 is better than T:V, otherwise you'll get flamed, mocked and taunted relentlessly.

sauron, you're just like me lol! I really don't get it, i'm good at every game I pick up but this one ouch! Kind of like Volley ball 15 years ago, I was on all the other sports team at school but I just sucked at volley ball for some reason.

Anyways there is just something about this game that just get me hooked! I guess i'll get back to the beta ... time to play defense and pick up some scrap kills cheap but fun!

Maybe some skilled oldskool tribes players will do a nice balanced classic mod, so dont write it off just yet.

There is already a classic mod being made for T.V. Classic made T2 into an awesome game. It should do the same for Tribes Vengeance. Plus Starsiege 2845 is looking to make T.V into one hell of a massive multiplayer game.

I was rather upset over the streamlining of the game at first, but after giving the beta another try or two or three I’ve changed my mind, maybe with the release of the multiplayer demo others will too.

Give it another chance, or two…

Pass...Not Tribes enough. Tribes 2 was good but needed tweaking. Tribes 3 is a UT2004 addon. Its not the same gameplay it feels like a quick spam fest. Vehicles are useless and your jet pack is supiorer.

I think Tribes is dead in my mind unless it gets reborn like the old. Where vehicles were useful and maps were large and not the small arena size.

Fear not the T.V. Yes the physics feel weird compared to T1 or T2, but give yourself time to learn the skiing and youll find its a fast fun game. With that said, however, I do hope they fixed the jetting (decreasing the time for the energy to recharge and adding better horizontal jetting) . Also the T.V gravity and pancaking is to extreme level it off to T1 T2 levels and the game will rock with some mods.

Mabey its just me but i didnt like the single player demo, it didnt seems Tribes enough, it played kinda like a UT2004 mod.

I had high hopes for this one too as i was very addicted to Tribes 1 & 2, ill go out on a limb and say tribes 2 tops this game even today.

I didnt say it sucked but i wont be buying it.

PS- enough already Irrational PLEASE MAKE SYSTEM SHOCK 3 already, and no im not interested in the Freedom series.

Gonna pass. Yes, Tribes 1/2 pre-dated UT2K4-ONS, but T:V looks just like what I would think ONS version 2 would come out looking like. Just didn't meet my expectations and I was totally bored with the MP demo within hours. Oh well, plenty of other games coming out now or very soon

P.S. - Thanks to the T:V team for at least releasing a demo, props for that.

Same as everyone else--this is great news, but I'm gonna wait for the demo and see if they've got the game polished up before I buy it. And please, for the love of Tribes have the vehicle steering controlled by the strafe buttons instead of the mouse axis.

As for reported ping vs. actual ping, that depends on the way the server scanner works. Most scanners send out one request for ping and info which can 'cause wonky results. All Seeing Eye, on the other hand, sends two requests. I don't think I've seen an occasion where the ping reported was any different than when I joined, unless the server was lacking in the horsepower department.

I'm excited but I need to see reviews and preferabbly a MP demo to see if the networking code has been fixed over what I have been playing for a month in the open beta.
