Does this mean they will be including this level of terrain mesh? I have the FS Genesis NorthEast US terrain (I think it's 38m?), and have contemplated purchasing the entire US mesh as well as the 9m terrain mesh for special areas like the Grand Canyon, etc.

Hopefully this patch also fixes the problem where you somtimes get "stuck" in ATC (after taking off on a VFR flight unable to ask for clearance to land).

Actually, I was forgetting about this - Justin released the FSGenesis USA 35m meshes for free onto AVSIM a few weeks ago - you can check em out there - it's not $100 to get the whole US either - it was like $35 or $40 for me. They come in packages like "The West Coast" "The Rockies" "The Great Plains" etc. I live in Arizona so having that high resolution mesh really helps with being able to visually identify mountains etc. It's gonna get better with the patch properly recognizing the resolution of the terrain now too!

Depends on what kind of flying you do.

I've tried several of the free mesh's and I have seen some the Payware scenery like (flying buddy bought some). To be honest wasnt impressed with it considering the cost.

The only one I do suggest is USA Roads (assuming you fly in the US) as it really did improve VFR.

FSWater isnt bad either..it offers several water types and also includes sky textures.

FSNav is also helpfull if you dont have charts available for an area your flying in..it makes finding VOR or NDB a bit easier on the fly over the stock map as it runs while the sim is running.

Keep in mind most of my flying in FS9 is mainly for Nav/Instrument flying practice or rough cross country planning...for getting a feel for airports I might be actualy flying in in RL.

If your flying military aircraft or Airline/Transport types then some of the other addons might be more usefull.

Thanks for the suggestions Tabs. I can't find much info on what FSGenesis actually does. I understand the mesh but I'd like to see how this actually impacts the graphics. The thing I really doesn't get is the price - $10 for each of about 40 meshs? $15 for each of about 30 ground texture sets? That's about $850 for the lot. Am I missing something? Even if I limit to where I regularly fly (which I don't tend to do but I could pick a few places), it would cost me about $100.

FSWater looks good. Does it include the sky textures or is that something else? Does it cover the whole world all the time?

There's some good stuff in the avsim library too. If you're willing to pay for it, the FScene ground textures, FSGenesis terrain mesh and landclass, and the Flight 1 FSWater water and sky textures produce a much more realistic looking sim than the defaults...

It's nice to see some free stuff being added (I assume it's free). I hope there's better ground textures (does anyone know of a good site that offers free usermade stuff that's worth using?) and the ability to stop ATC messages that are not about you from popping up while keep those that are relevent.
