Half-Life 2 Release Candidate

A short post to the Half-Life 2 Fallout Forums by Valve's Gabe Newell indicates a release candidate for Valve's upcoming shooter sequel was submitted to Vivendi Universal Games for approval yesterday. Thanks Andrew.

But they dropped the CD on the way there, and a 12 year old picked it up and is uploading it now.

How's that for trolling?

A post on a forum from Gabe suggesting progress? Woah, deja vu.

Looking. Forward. To. The. Gold. Announcement.

If this is only the first RC, there could be several more of them. I wouldn't get too slap happy yet.

gaben again?

Seriously, glad to hear this. Can't wait for the gold announcement. Better yet, I can't wait to play the game. I hope it's not as boring as the original.

I'm still trying to think of how this anouncement is going to lead to another let down again. The only possibility I can think of is Vivendi rejecting it... although I can't imagine that happening.

... as boring as the original.

You moron, HalfLife was probably the single best FPS that ever graced the PC in it's time. It had a great story, intense action, cool scripted events, and was voted best PC game of all time many times by almost every publisher and gamer.

If you found HalfLife 1 to be boring, then you are in the wrong genre buddy, because it doesn't get much more exciting then that since it was released. FarCry coming the closest so far, almost 6 years later.

Oh look at me, I'm the only one allowed to have an opinion and if you don't share it, then you're wrong.

I hate the internet.

On another note, for once it seems they were actually able to do what they said. Impressive.

That's not trolling, you're just helping Valve come up with another "reason" in case things work out like last year. They could hold a contest and the winning "reason" gets a free download of Blue Shift.

Here's my entry:

  • To keep hackers from being able to steal the game we moved the final code from the server to (many) floppies. This made working on the game quite cumbersome but we felt much better being able to load the box of floppies into the safe every night before heading to the bar. Unfortunately the floppies were damaged by the airport x-ray machines while in route to Vivendi...

Just kidding Valve. The game will rock - I can't wait!

Oh wow, look at that...an RC only almost a year after it was supposed to be released...I see raises in the dev team's future...

Finally, the wait is almost over. I'll be glad to get to the part where everyone bitches about the gameplay and lacking multi...

Thinkin' this broken foot is making me really bitchy,

Actually, I am surprised no one said someone hacked in to Gabe's account and made a false post

Uhhh...I remember that Valve shipped the final to Q&A a couple of days or maybe a week back. Seems to me that that got sent back and this should really be labeled RC2...
What's with the spin? Or do I just not get the games industry (no, don't answer that final one unless you spot the mistake ;))?
