CoD: United Offensive Demo

A demo for Call of Duty: United Offensive is now available, offering a chance to check out the World War II shooter add-on. Though United Offensive is an add-on, the demo is stand-alone, and does not require the original game to play. The demo is a 225 MB download, available on 3D Gamers, ActionTrip, Computer Games Online, eXtreme-Players.de, FileFront, FilePlanet (registration required), Filerush (torrent), FileShack (registration required), Fragland.net, FPSCentral, Gamer's Hell, Gameguru Mania, GameSpot DLX (registration required), and Worthplaying.

I watched a video of that game & couldn't believe how stupid it looked. It's like watching 2 1/2 dimensional Theif-lookalike bullshit. I thought we were past this. They look like holograms brought in from some older game.

I can't believe anyone thinks this game is good at all. I don't care if it has the best playing experience in all history, if it looks like butt, it is butt.

Someone at work today said it was kinda like the original except squished into an even shorter package, meaning the good and bad were both intensified in their own way. He said it was still head and shoulders above anything Red Orchestra, the last Medal of Honor expansion, or Hidden and Dangerous 2 have offered, though judging by H&D2 that's not saying much.

Nevertheless, I'll have to give the demo a try once it finishes downloading later this year.

Yeah, one of the reasons I liked CoD was its delivery and blend of setting and pace. If it's the same in this expansion it'll be a nice change from a host of FPS games I've played lately that have had too much filler between their memorable moments.

Um, a rail ride right at the start?
Pick up that gun boy, now that gun, boy.

I died more times by simply moving away from my bitch-master than anything else. Move away from the guy you're supposed to be following & you get hit by a shell. Do what you're supposed to do and magically, this never happens. You can stay at the house after the rail-ride for as long as you want, and the germans never show up. This demo sucked ass!!!!!

I don't know what all the negative crap is about.

This is a great game. So far I'm enjoying it more than the first one.

The maps are much bigger and alive with action scripted perhaps but it is fun.

The multiplayer is a blast for me. It has enough realism to balance out the arcade qualities.

It's NOT battlefield 1942 gameplay - so don't buy it epecting that.

It does have great looking maps with huge buildings - smoke and giant explosions.

And who doesn't love calling artillery strikes and seeing p47's fly by dropping bombs.

The game is not for everyone - the MP is not for everyone.
But I don't think you can slam a game just because it isn't your taste. Actually it's annoying when people do that...

I'd prefer if people posted what they didn't like about it rather than just saying it was crap - it's a waste of comment space...

Anyway, this is my first post although I've been reading blues news for years...

Hmm, all the review sites seem to be giving it good reviews so far. I might wait a little longer for some more, but it's all above average right now. Looks like a buy.

Well i thought they would have fixed the lame single player AI tactics from the first but I was wrong. I play every game I buy on the hardest setting I can. But CoD is totally lame at these settings. Enemy has incredible luck with their on the move aim. They can shoot miles away through fog and smoke, who knew that thermal goggles exsisted in the 1940s. For fucks sake, some one take some time to write some original AI coding and difficulty scaling instead of just increasing/decreasing aim and health. Its the fucking 21st century, pull some heads outta asses.

Who knew ... I was wrong on CoD UO. Don't waste ya ducats.

Liked the original, so I'll probably get this. I'm just glad I can get my money back for Doom 3 since expansions these days cost what a full product does.

@John
I did, I usually go to Filefront 1st because I usually get 500-600kb/s there. Turns out there was a hydro explosion that damaged some Shaw equipment around my area and was slowly affecting everyone's connection here, was just lucky when I tested my other haunts at the time I guess, bizarre ..

@Ant
Thanks for the link, I appreciate the extra effort from ya, but I eventually got it later on.

Played this. Seems just like the original, I didn't notice anything really new although I haven't played COD is a bit.

For me, I don't like the random deaths. Tried hardened first, died repeatedly. Went to the lesser difficulty, made it a bit farther, but there's still random shells that can kill you instantly. You'll be doing everything your're supposed to be doing and still die over and over. I was killing krauts with nice sweeping 50 cal work, killing 20x more than any ai, then suddenly BOOM, dead from mortar.

That's another thing, I didn't notice even one single dead kraut from any of the ai. I guess they did kill one or two, but usually it's 20 krauts and I apparently have to kill at least 18 of them solo - even when the ai are only 20 ft away from the enemy, they miss over and over. Kinda stupid.

Won't be buying this. Seems like same COD, just another day.

Also, didn't the expansions for Dungeon Siege and Battle Realms come packaged with the original games?

Technically not 'stand-alone' expansions, but they came with the full game in each case.

..., all the download links provided are timing out it seems, tested my connection on my other regular haunts and it's fine there, strange.

Try FileFront. Everytime I've gone there recently, their free servers have been open (no waiting lines) and the speeds are good too.

Edit: - Homeworld

Well, Homeworld's expansion was made by a different developer.. and I think they changed some things with the engine too.

Games that have had stand-alone expansions:

- Kohan
- Interstate '76
- Commandos
- Homeworld
- Stronghold (I think)

Uh.. RTCW never had an expansion called Behind Enemy Lines.

The only expansion it has is the free stand-alone game called Enemy Territory. They didn't think development was going as well as they planned, so they canned it and released it to the public for free.

If it's released to the public for free, it obviously won't require the original.

There are several stand alone expansions for games.

The expansion for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, 'Behind enemy Lines' or something like that.
Blitzkrieg: Burning Horizon is another.
Stronghold: Crusader.
Warlords 3: Darklords Rising (Even though they call it a 'sequel' it's not really).

There are more I cant' really think of right now.
