Shade: Wrath of Angels Demo

A playable demo for Shade: Wrath of Angels is now available, offering the chance to sample Black Element Software's third-person action/adventure. The 85 MB download is available on Tiscali Games (here's the read me), where they point out: "Details about content of demo are not known yet, because it installs (without any warning) StarForce3 protection driver to system and requires restart of Windows before first start of the game." Other mirrors are available on 3D Gamers, ActionTrip, Computer Games Online, FileFront, and Worthplaying.

I suppose I can't play the game again if I have it removed, right?
CD crack.

My new computer is arriving next week and when I reload all my games I'm gonna find a no CD crack for every single one of them. My house and desk are just too messy for me to be able to find all my CDs whenever I want them.

Game developers used to use all kinds of tricks way back in the DOS days, and it used to get pretty annoying. They stopped doing that crap after a while because users were complaining and in some of the more egregious cases, refusing to buy the games. Seems like the cycle started again sometime back and is getting to the point where it's really pissing people off again.

I think the whole sneaky program install is unethical and pisses me off to no end. So yes, I will boycott this game purely because it uses starforce.

Lesson to be learned here, publishers - don't piss off your customer base.

It is no coincidence that all of the games that have used Starforce to date aren't worth playing. If enough people pass on these games, developers and publishers will stop using this sh*tty copy-protection. There are plenty of other games on the market.

After my recent purchase of Soldiers Heroes of WW2,which use's starforce.I will never buy another starforce game agian.Random crashes, random reboots, not to mention how bad it mess's windows up.

Huh, I've also got Soldiers, but didn't know it had StarForce. Although, I havn't had any of the problems that you mentioned. The game never crashed or caused my PC to reboot.. and I havn't noticed a change in Windows either. But I will be sure to have it removed later. I suppose I can't play the game again if I have it removed, right?

That's where I got starforce shit installed from the game XIII. I uninstalled that shit long ago. And if it wasn't for this thread and clicking on the links I would have never known I still had the starforce drivers. And I would never have finally gotten rid of them.

You know, the funny thing about this piece of shit StarForce is that most of the companies which used it in the past stopped using it after they received a flurry of complaints from legitimate users.

Case in point: UbiSoft. Remember the patches that got rid of StarForce? I do. Wasn't too hard for the 'scene' to get rid of it earlier, either.

Oh yeah, and supposedly the prime reason XIII didn't sell was because of the worthless copy protection which had you check each of the 4 cds periodically... on a FULL installation.

Great fun.

WTF? Starforce? Nice way to show off your demo. I was looking forward to this, too, but I'll be playing something else that won't screw with my system.

Oh my god. I fucking have starforce. I didn't fucking know it. I went to a site that showed how to check if you have it installed and I went I checked "show hidden devices" under the view menu in device manager and there it fucking is.

Fuck you star force. You should be classified as malware. I was never told it was being installed. Where is the EULA for it telling me it's being installed? Nowhere.

Some shitty no name demo put out by a no name developer includes star force. ROFL. What a complete joke. Who would want it? I say they should give away the game for free not be worried that someone will pirate their piece of shit game. Even if they gave it away nobody would want to play it, maybe if they paid people to play it. Even then I'm no so sure.

Great, I installed a few demos while I didnt know about this protection, my pc preformance certainly went down the road faster then the usual windows install "life span" and I dont use Explorer, periodically check for syware and such, clean registry, defragment to name a few.

Even after I found the little utility they have t remove starforce my PC remained somewhat loaded, and I dont know why, reinstalling freshly windows after I play each friggin demo or each frigign game?!?!?

FU whoever came up with this, it's like windows arent loaded with crapware enough.

Oh and do I have to buy expensive CD protection stickers now, becasue obviously I cant back up my CD's normally...

Not living in US proves that hard task, not to mention expensive >:[

The way starforce explains this is that since the demo is "like the real game" someone comparing the 2 .exe files can then easily determine where the protection is. Yeah, a load of crap, but they (starforce) do require it on demos.

Which is why I am not touching this or any other starforce game, even if say HL2 uses this protection. :X

Without any knowledge of this f*cked up Starforce crap.. I installed the demo.

I played the game and it's a shame compared to the other games resently released!

Would it have been good looking graphs 3 years ago?
Yeah.. 3 years ago it would.

The gameplay... hmmzz they did make it console-players friendly, if you know what I mean.

The basic idea is that it will stop crackers comparing the non-protected demo exe and the protected exe in the release version. That's the thinking behind putting it there.

However! I agree this is definatly a demo too miss, I'm not interested in a game having a prerequiste of "no software from this manufacturer".

What's next EA games that won't run if you have Ubisoft games installed?

Stick yer demo where the sun the sun don't shine black element!

"Irritation-Ware: Copy protection with a mean streak"

"While stopping software piracy is the scheme's goal, the system instead causes system slowdowns, PC instability, device conflicts, is nearly impossible to remove manually, and remains long after you've uninstalled the software it came with."

And there's no warning. You don't even know a game you are installing may have it.
