DOOM Movie Star

The Hollywood Reporter (thanks GameGossip and Frans) has word that a star has been chosen for the upcoming DOOM movie, reporting that Karl Urban will play the DOOM marine. Most recently Karl was in The Bourne Supremacy, after previously appearing in such geek-friendly projects as The Chronicles of Riddick, two of The Lord of the Rings movies, and a bunch of episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess.

Karl Urban as the marine?? Awesome...He's a great tough looking actor. I thought they would put the rock with his stupid slap stick humour in doom..OMG that would sux. I hope doom is a SERIOUS movie about mars invasion not some stupid half comedy half horror movie. Karl looked great in bourne supremacy as that terrorist or something so yeah he looks good. I can imagine that tough mean looking face as the marine...

I'm actually thinking he might not be so bad of a choice. He's relatively unknown, but I certainly remembered him from LotR movies, even if I didn't know his name.

At least they didn't get Jean Claude VanDamage . . .

Doom3 was dark for a very good reason. It's funny how many people couldn't get passed it.

The Rock will be in the movie, from his comments it sounds like he'll be playing Sarge.

Karl Urban is a good actor. Bit of a pretty boy but I'm sure they can make him look a bit more rough around the edges

Interesting choice. Well then, I can say I actually met the Doom guy. For those who may not know, he played Caesar and Cupid on Xena, as well as a few extras.

Giving Doom Guy an actual name takes away some of his mystique.

Agreed.

The Doom guy was specifically left nameless by id. It only seems right to maintain that. Although, did the doom guy get named in D3?

Anyone noticed that in his movies, Karl's main look is this serious, pinched-eyebrow, pursed lips look? He does it in both Riddick and Lotr.

I really wonder what kind of movie they can make outta this - if it's a Paul Anderson/Resident Evil style movie I will pass - that was one steaming pile of sh!t.

Not sure how you can stretch a doom3 movie for 2 hours, however. I guess they can add in some annoying f'ken kids and a sexy female love interest, and make it the most cliched lump of sh!t ever.

Karl Urban is NOT an american bad ass.
the should use Bruce Cambel.
He's the number 1 american bad ass.
no one else should even be considered
if cambel's not in it, I'm waiting for the video!

Campbell. He's great, but he doesn't look very "marine." I'm stuck always thinking of Ash or Autolycus when I look at him.

But Bruce has his boomstick.... and who wants some, huh??

He's no doom marine, but if his dedication to saving the UAC matched his dedication to s-mart... well, you could see how the evils of hell would have been beaten:P

Right on man. This movie actually has some hope now with Karl Urban(Eomer!) as he's a much better actor than The Rock. Hopefully they put it to good use. I could really see a Doom movie as being an immersive/visceral story, if it's pulled off right. I want grit and realism damnit! As in, save the fucking bullettime and Eurotrash metal music during actions scenes for Resident Evil 3.

If it ends up blowing chunks(95% probability) then, hey, I'll still give it a rental and laugh my ass off. Here's hoping its either really good or really cheesy!

Edit: Please no wisecrackin' goofball sidekicks who spout terrible jokes and one liners. That would totally ruin this movie.

Yeah, they will get one of the either idiot-clown-directors Paul Anderson or Uwe Boll(the guy behind suh crappy time wastes as House of the Dead) Buchmeier is super genius wounderkind direcetor compared to those two jokes.

According to this story on EMPIRE Online, The Rock might not be playing the sarge - he might be playing the devil himself.

Edit: Oh, and for director they name "...the talented and notoriously difficult to spell Andrzej Bartkowiak...", who directed...Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, and Cradle 2 the Grave.
