UT2004 Beta Patches

New beta patches are now available for Unreal Tournament 2004. A new Win32 patch is available at 3D Gamers, FileFront, and FilePlanet (registration required). There is also a new Linux beta patch, which can be found on 3D Gamers and FileFront. The patches update the game to version 3323, and here's the description from 3D Gamers: "This is an unsupported beta release, applying the usual array of improvements, bug fixes and other changes in the Onslaught mode, Onslaught AI, general gameplay, demo recording, networking, editor, and engine departments."

Just got this month's copy of PC Zone...

It says the game DE is focusing on is 'Dark Sector', dunno if you guys have heard of that

It looks like a 3rd person action game with 1st person elements.... it actually reminds me of Deus Ex

First off, WinAmp plays Ogg files natively.

Secondly, what conversion, and thus, what loss of quality?

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Btw, there are some plugins for winamp that will let you play the Unreal music files after you export them with UnrealEd

Or better yet, skip WinAmp bloatware and get a Ogg player to play the files directly, with out loss of quality in the conversion

Unreal won't install for me on windows XP :/ I didn't really like the whole Nali thing anyway.

2k4 is far better than 2k3. 2k3 started collecting dust on my shelf shortly after it's release, 2k4 I still play (and that's saying a lot considering I'm a DM player and most play ONS). Considering how cheap it is, and all of the mods being released for it, and the official content; aswell as the official ECE bonus pack being released soon with new maps, vehicles etc; and all of the editing and scripting tools out of the box, I'd say it's worth every penny, even if you're only mildly interested.

I'll stop before I sound like an ut advertisement

I want to get the Unreal soundtrack, but can't find it anywhere

I've got a copy - haven't listened to it in a while, but I remember some of the stuff wasn't bad. Need to fire it up again...

Replaying the original Unreal now with all sorts of graphics tweaks. If they just remade that game with the Ut2k4 engine I'd possibly consider paying money for it.

What kind of tweaks are avail for the original Unreal? I'm replaying it too for nostalgia :} Just stepping outside and seeing the Vortex Rikers for the first time transplanted me back to 1997 j(or was it '98?) with my Voodoo1 card :O

Any UT2004 players, can you tell me if the rocket launcher is still a shadow of its former self?

In UT the RL had so much flexibility, single fire, up to 5 rocket spread, 5 rocket grouping, grenade, 5 grenade spread, homing missile ect.

It does the single fire, up to 3 rocket spread, 3 rocket grouping, and homing. The homing takes a little longer to lock though. There is a seperate grenade launcher.

This space is available for rent

No, ut2k4 is much much more than this. Don't let the uninformed sway you. More new game types than any other game, better balance, more weapons. My personal favorite new gametype the is Vehicle CTF on the http://kushut.com servers that are in westcoast.

Just pay for 500 MBs of bandwidth ($5), and have at it. They've got lots of other game music, as well as movie soundtracks, normal music, and music videos. Looking at my stats on there, it says I've downloaded 17.54 GBs over the last few years.

Then came UT2003 with, wow 3 rockets, and um hey, a pretty spiral.

The castration of the RL was just too annoying and I never bought UT2K3. I assumed it was the same in 2K4.

It's a shame to see such a great game destroyed by UNOFFICIAL anti cheat measures like Anti TCC. UT2004 is only single player now.

Every fucking server runs that lag causing Anti TCC shit.

In the interview with CliffyB the other week, I think they said it was going to be co-op, whatever it was... Also that it's not UT, but that UT was Steve Polges thingy these days, or something like that. Don't recall it word for word...

wouldnt it be nice if they release ut2005 as some sort of free add on just so they can make it consecutive? that would be real cool and people would give them even more credit for being so generous to the ut community! ut2004 was absoulutely fantastic, i hope there are many more like it to follow. btw unreal championship 2 will be shipping for the consoles soon and they are focusing on melee style weapons this time around. I wonder if that's what they'll do to the next ut?? as long as they don't ruin it i could care less!

agreed, 2003 was basically a waste beside the pretty graphics. 2004 is great, i never get tired of playing it. If they release a few more community packs, i don't think we need a new version until 2006 at the earliest

...and DE are working on their own projects now too. I think it's safe to say there won't be a UT2005.

I'm placing bets on UT2007 being the next one, using the Unreal 3 tech. The only thing that would stop that is if a third party company took over the next UT, and I don't think many people would like that.

Unreal 3 is only the name of the engine, Epic's next game isn't going to be an 'Unreal' game; can't remember where i read that, but I did see it in more than 1 interview.
