Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Official

Bethesda Softworks sends along word that the next game in the Elder Scrolls series of RPGs is Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, confirming the rumored title (story). They say the first details on the project will be unveiled in the October issue of Game Informer magazine (they've posted the cover on The Elder Scrolls Website in case you need a mug shot to identify it), on newsstands September 23. Here's what they have to say about all this for now:
Bethesda Softworks LLC, a ZeniMax Media company, today announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(tm) is currently in development for PC and future generation consoles. In development since 2002, Oblivion is another leap forward in role-playing with its combination of freeform gameplay and cutting-edge graphics. The world-exclusive details on Oblivion are featured in the October issue of Game Informer. Check out their mammoth 12-page cover story to get all the details and screenshots.

Damn this will be one scarey game ... Elder Scrolls Setting + Photo Realistic Graphics that the next gen consoles have ... could be amazing. Just hope they dont just focus on porting the Morrowind engine to the next gen consoles / 2006 uber PC's and add some new imaginative ideas ... like they did with all the previous ones in the series.

Although one request as has been mentioned no more fecking cliff racers! Stupidist Mob ever!

Elderscrolls. Games that require "living" in-game, not just playing. People either love em. Or they hate em. Morrowind was fucking great. Tribunal was erm, rather sad, and Bloodmoon was cool cos of the snow and the WW, but other than that it was kind of bla. I hope that Oblivion will include the whole of, Tamriel however i realise that would be a little too much to hope for. (Remember Daggerfall anyone?) One little thing that I noticed is the cute Horsie that the Knight was riding on.
Horses in RPGS. Sounds logical doesnt it?
SO WHY THE FUCK DIDNT ANYONE DO ANY SINCE FUCKING DAGGERFALL??????????????????

Im really hoping that there will be mounts, and that there will be mounted combat.

Greatest melee game ever. Ever. Pity game companies nowadays are too cowardly to create more mouse vsim games.

I hope that this time around the books you find lead to ingame quests. That would really be a fun addition. The more you explore, the more the world opens up.

W0000T! Elder scrolls owns me! And cliff racers SUCK. And yea I've also played at least 100-150 hours and still haven't even finished the main quest. I made my character so powerful that dagoth ur can't kill me =( My self enchanted items are insanely powerful (regen)

I have to jack up the difficulty to be able to play the game.

Oh, FUCK YEAH!!

Edit:
I also hope the 'thief' gameplay style gets a boost, especially given how Thief III hasn't panned out for allowing Fan Missions.

I hope the game engine does not suck as hard as the last one. Geez. Even a beefy system today is not particularly smooth. Yes, I know that this is an RPG and the purist will scream "it doesn't matter" but it does to me - and this is my opinion.. So nyah :p

oh, and please make the combat more interesting. I'd love to see a bit of earned skill-based swordplay similar to Severance: Blade of Darkness (severed limbs/heads and all).

OK, this is going to sound stupid, but one of the first quests in Morrowind that I encountered was what really hooked me into the gameworld and the idea. It's the one where you're in that first town, and you hear that someone's been stealing stuff and you're supposed to find out who. Going up into the tower and then just waiting all night to try and see what was going on, and then seeing that one guy go off to the swamp and do something near the stump (or whatever).... and then going there the next morning and finding the stolen goods.

Oh yeah, that's the Kill Fargoth quest. The one where you befriend, betray and finally kill Fargoth. You even get a ring out of it.

Is day-night cycles. If it's 2am in the morning, people shouldn't be bustling about. I also hope the 'thief' gameplay style gets a boost, especially given how Thief III hasn't panned out for allowing Fan Missions.

Hopefully, this time they'll address some of the lackluster character designs, make it easier to animate (currently you cant animate.. just use existing skeletons), and more importantly keep the ease of modding!

I'm so excited! I wonder if I'll be able to port those robes I did over to the new engine?
