From what I've read about Fable, I honestly only think this would be an interesting game if it were designed for multiplayer, in other words, a single-player game designed to be played on the internet. The idea of all my choices effecting a static environment really has little appeal to me, but if real people were playing in a game world where everyone's choices effected it and everyone was forced to be in character (just offer a dialogue system and eliminate the chat function), THAT would be cool. I'm surprised that no developer has done anything like that yet. I guess from a game design standpoint it would be extremely complicated.

ayup that's what early mmog designers tried for and have pretty much abandoned - a Dynamic World System where Actions have Cause-and-Effect Consequence, where player actions ripple thru the game world and affect the environment as well as other players. Apparently even a limited implementation of such a model is just way too complex to ever work.

Don't really care about the game...but just a suggestion to try and listen to some Amon Tobin. In particular: the 'Out From Out Where' and 'Permutation' albums.

It's not too complex, people are just assholes. There are fairly complex models to represent why people are assholes in general life. Strangely they're not popular.

And that's why a lot of people, who have extensive Internet experience, would still rather play single player. Because the average NPC isn't going to declare you to be teh suxor.


However much we deserve it.
