Acclaim Closings

A story on MCV (thanks Frans) indicates the bad news just keeps getting worse for besieged developer/publisher Acclaim, which looks to be entering its death throes with some closing announcements:
The company earlier this week announced that it was seeking additional funding, but warned that bankruptcy was a possibility. Sadly, that now looks like being the reality.

Yesterday, the Acclaim Texas facility was closed and this morning the publisher’s Manchester studio was shut down with a loss of 130 jobs. Meanwhile, the European head office in Kensington is not answering its phones.

A announcement to NASDAQ is expected this afternoon.

The word in Austin is the studio has been closed all last week due to 3 months + of unpaid rent. The Austin studio barely made payroll last round so this next ones in question. People are bailing left and right. The Austin games dev scene is in the crapper right now, with tons of game devs with no work moving away from TX. Its too bad a lot of folks at that studio were very good game devs. The management I heard in Austin was terrible, and had been for years.
