Acclaim Closings

A story on MCV (thanks Frans) indicates the bad news just keeps getting worse for besieged developer/publisher Acclaim, which looks to be entering its death throes with some closing announcements:
The company earlier this week announced that it was seeking additional funding, but warned that bankruptcy was a possibility. Sadly, that now looks like being the reality.

Yesterday, the Acclaim Texas facility was closed and this morning the publisher’s Manchester studio was shut down with a loss of 130 jobs. Meanwhile, the European head office in Kensington is not answering its phones.

A announcement to NASDAQ is expected this afternoon.

Well, I'm sure Bard's Tale will come out. But InXile will just have to find another publisher. I actually thought they were self-publishing that one, but I guess not.

I <think> Acclaim were <just> handling distribution while the devs were doing everything else (advertising, box art, plastic wrapping - apparently I don't know what the hell publishers actually do. Hmm.)
