The Adventure Company Ships Dark Fall: Lights Out
Things just got a Little Darker at Retail

Toronto, Ontario, August 26, 2004. The Adventure Company* today announced that Dark Fall: Lights Out has shipped for Windows®.

Many lives have been lost on the lethal rocks surrounding the harbor town of Trewarthan. When a thick fog covers the land, the silence is shattered by the sound of a ghostly foghorn. Suddenly, Fetch Rock Lighthouse is plunged into darkness. In Dark Fall: Lights Out players follow Benjamin Parker, a young cartographer, sent to map the area, and Polly White, a ghost hunter determined to make contact with “the beyond,” as they explore the Lighthouse throughout four different time periods.

The sequel to Dark Fall: The Journal, the title offers more than 50 realistic pre-rendered locations to explore in a startling ghost story weaved with multiple chilling subplots. Players will come across an original cast of characters as well as observe and interact with spectral beings in this adventure thriller.

“Dark Fall: Lights Out is the perfect follow up to Dark Fall: The Journal,” says Richard Wah Kan, President of The Adventure Company. “XXv has created another original story and brought it together with a haunting setting and clever puzzles.”

Darkfall was an EXCELLENT game! So is DF2!!
I am a gamer who has to play just about ALL games when they come out. Whether its Doom3 or Darkfall.
Darkfall was SCARY......and Very entertaining. I went through it in one sitting. LOVED it....played DOOM3 for a few hours, its still on the HD but it probably won't get finished. Yes, its kinda scary and the graphics are freakin' incredible, but there's no DEPTH. DF and DF2 are full of an engrossing story that really sucks you in, so when the sub=par ghostly sound effect comes on...it SCARES you! DF2 so far has the best storyline ive come across in a long time. Keep your gore and FPS action, I'm gonna point and click my way through a great story and feel more satisfied in the end.....

Get what?

ToEE? I have had that for the past month or so, just not installed.

Myst IV? Well, I have only played Myst, Riven, Myst III, Uru, Path to D'ni, Path of the Shell, Real Myst, and one or two of the collections.

Dark Fall: Lights Out? It all depends on when I go looking for more games to play, what I stumble upon, and what is in that $20 range. Unless I have my demos mistaken, this one did look rather nice, though obtuse as hell.

A very, very sad person :o,
Ray

Well, only one bug so far and I can tolerate and exit-only bug so long as my saves retain their integrity. I will have to hunt down the boards and look at the SP2 and/or current bugs. However, I do not seem to have any issues looting, at least I did not in the training module.

I do llke what I have seen so far, though that could just be the dearth of RPGs talking through me. All RPGs should have (native) 1280x1024 support, though...where is Waldo my character at that point? The interface is different as well. Though it drives you a bit batty by the time you are on the fourth branch, you do have access to a number of items from one click.

I will KILL any NPC that takes my loot!

Off to check out the SP2 issues,
Ray

I feel for you. I'm getting hooked myself. No, they're not great, ground breaking games.. But they are a few hours of good, solid fun. And my wife likes them too.

I just upgraded to an AMD FX-53 and Geforce 6800 Ultra Extreme for this game. I should be able to squeeze massive FPS out of it now. When I played DF: The Journal, it was like a freaking slide show. I think I was literally getting about 1 FPS with my crappy Trident VLB card.

Yea really! I have a Radeon 9700 pro, 3ghz Pentium 4 HT and 1 gig of memory and it STILL had a framerate of like 1 frame per 10 seconds!

I'm glad they're shipping this baby on time or all my upgrades would have been for naught.

Hey Ray,

You should try Cormyrean Nights, a mod for NWN. It's really good - I'm completely hooked. You can get the d/l from NWVault.

Hope this helps!

I told ya Ray... bugs.

Check out their boards for new bugs related to Windows XP SP2.. one of them is a crash on exit. Also, make sure you're able to loot the dead mobs.

Tip: some of the NPCs you hire tend to take some of your phat lewt. Fill their inventories up with junk so they can't grab anymore They'll also sell items when you visit a merchant. I found out the hard way after letting a NPC hold onto one of my uber weapons. Later on I noticed it turned into a bunch of gold coins

I am a sucker. Er...I am a sucker for the $20 adventure games from TAC/DC.

However, I just installed ToEE and that seems...interesting. I love that it scales to various resolutions, though my characters become quite small.

Sad as it is to say, I am eagerly awaiting Myst IV due at the end of next month...

Noting ToEE does crash when exiting :|,
