Stronghold 2 Announced

Take-Two sends along the announcement of plans for Stronghold 2, along with the first pair of screenshots from Firefly's upcoming RTS sequel. Here's the announcement of the game, which is due sometime next year:
GLOBAL STAR AND FIREFLY STUDIOS ANNOUNCE STRONGHOLD 2

New York – August 24, 2004 – Global Star Software, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), and Firefly Studios are pleased to announce Stronghold 2, the sequel to the award-winning titles Stronghold and Stronghold: Crusader. The Stronghold franchise has sold over 1.5 million units worldwide.

Due to be released for PC in early 2005, the castle-sim and siege-warfare RTS game Stronghold 2 will bring the series to life in glorious 3D. Stronghold 2 will also offer players a “castle-life” campaign, enhanced multiplayer capability and a new, innovative and exciting single player campaign that will be revealed in the months ahead.

"The first Stronghold game pioneered a genre by combining the elements of simulation games and combat strategy into a single unique experience," said Christoph Hartmann, Senior Vice President of Publishing at Global Star. "Now we are thrilled to bring Stronghold 2 to the market, which will undoubtedly set the standard as Firefly Studios has taken its already highly regarded gameplay and pushed it beyond anyone's expectations with new and innovative features. We are confident that Stronghold 2 will captivate gamers in 2005."

"We decided to steer away from the typical RTS mold when we developed the original Stronghold," said Simon Bradbury, Director at Firefly Studios. "Now, with a 3D engine that can render tens of thousands of animated characters on-screen simultaneously, we can explore the intricacies of castle-life and the machinations of siege-warfare like never before in Stronghold 2. Once again we will take the Stronghold franchise into new and exciting territory."

Yeah though um, if it's going to look nearly identical as the 2d, why make it run any slower on my computer than it has to? Not saying I have a slow comp, though generally what tends to happen in 3D RTS games with lots of troops is that it um, slows down. I hope the overall change to 3D helps it. I seriously hate games that are great in 2D and go to 3D and suckass. Heres hoping 3D doesn't kill another great 2D RTS game. Wc3 has to be the only success. Cheers!

I loved the first one. I am really looking forward to the second one.

My best moment in the game was playing vs. my friend over the network. I had a huge group of spear men I was getting ready to attack with so I gave them a glorious speech "You men shall be the first wave of the attack. To glory!" My friend laughed so hard he couldn't control his men and lost really badly. Ah, good times.

Amazing in 3D and it looks to support Troop formations. The graphics look sweet and if you notice the game is still the same even in 3d you can see the warehouse with food and such.

I always wondered if SH2 could be made without losing detail.

Great news. I loved Stroghold even though there were dozens of little annoyances, there better be a beta I can get into. “Hope they like beef!”
