For such a large majority of PC gamers who expect a First Person Shooter to have a detailed, immersive story.. there sure seems to be a lack of FPS games that have it.
Perhaps too much action is sacrificed to accomodate story in a lot of them? I do not recall the story in HL being that much "deeper" than Doom 3, but it's been years since I played the SP HL campaign. I really loved the first 2/3 of HL - got too difficult towards the end to really enjoy the game.
I am kinda surprised that id didn't have levels that load in the background like the original HL - that was one feature I really liked. I think that, more than any other feature, kept you "immersed" in the game. Hope HL2 kept it....
