DOOM3 IS A TECHDEMO ROFLROFL IM SO WITTY AND CREATIVE, NO ONE HAS THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE. NICE JOB SELLING YOUR ENGINE ID!!! I CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT

Figures people can't just enjoy a damn game. System Shock 2 sucks, if I want a story, I'll go read a damn book. If I want to have fun, I'll play a game. Been my mantra for the past several years, and hasn't really failed me yet.

How can a techdemo without any gameplay sell at all?

This should have been released for free like all the other Assembly demos!

i will not buy doom3, i dont want to spend my 50 bucks on a game when i cant aford 150 to buy a graphic card(beacause of every new game release, directx update, new shader, new 3dmark, new semester), and that game does not have any replayability, nor fantastic multiplayer, nor cosiderable lenght, nor interesting history, nor nohing. yes, i will accept it, doom3 has a terrific engine, really, but the game sucks, at least for me, and...

i prefer downloading it, i wil not buying it anyway, so i'm not hurting it, instead im forcing id to try again and make a terrific game.

"im forcing id to try again and make a terrific game" - Nice way to rationalize STEALING someone's product. You're not forcing them to do anything, you're depriving them of $$$ they earned by making the product you're enjoying free of charge.

If the game isn't worth buying, then why are you playing it?

Instead of stealing it, why don't you wait for the FREAKING DEMO to try it out to see if you like it. That way, you're not supporting the illegal distribution of someone's product and you still get to try it out for yourself. Let me guess your answer - "im saving them the trouble of making a demo for me" - do I have it right?

Aug 24, 2004, 14:54

PS2 XBOX and Gamecube all get pirated too, its not a PC only thing, what the hell do you think all those ads for mod chips are for? How come Doom is selling so well? I thought pirating was ruining the industry? No wait its because your games blows chunks that it didnt sell and you blamed pirates. Arrr ther she blows! Word on copy protection, IT DOES NOT WORK! WhyTF do you bother? It only pisses off people who paid for your product. People who download games are leechers and do not buy software so you are not loseing sales. People who 'copy and sell' your software 'are' pirates and should be burned at the stake.

PS Glad to see Doom3 sales are high hopefully it will translate into lots of mods.

Amen - I want my money back. This is my first and last id-developed game. Looking forward to other developers making an actual game out of this new engine

>Games like Gish...are fun little diversions which I play a LOT more than Doom

Thanks for the heads up on Gish...Looks cool and even has a demo available for MacOS X and Linux (work platforms!!)

I will buy Doom3 when the price drops to around $20 bucks.

Though, I see idsoftware is still selling Quake for $25. I guess I will be waiting a while...

wwell, i think doom3 has been a terrific marketing move to gain lot of money, and i think the same of q3a, its not bad anyway but...

the game for me its like an excuse to sell the engine, nothing more, u see, after this game, any game made with doom3 engine will sell very good, beacuse of the same reasons q3a did, like multiplayer, graphics, mods, compatibility for older cards and super-fuker-powercards, flexibility, and more, and im sure its a terrific engine, but...

i will not buy doom3, i dont want to spend my 50 bucks on a game when i cant aford 150 to buy a graphic card(beacause of every new game release, directx update, new shader, new 3dmark, new semester), and that game does not have any replayability, nor fantastic multiplayer, nor cosiderable lenght, nor interesting history, nor nohing. yes, i will accept it, doom3 has a terrific engine, really, but the game sucks, at least for me, and...

i prefer downloading it, i wil not buying it anyway, so i'm not hurting it, instead im forcing id to try again and make a terrific game. i really dont care if id crys out, becasue id its gonna sell the engine for a LOT of money MANY times. game industry and graphic card industry already profit money for me, and i think they gain a lot. the only reason i could posibly buy this or another game is the same reason i buy a dvd movie or an audiocd, beacuse i want it original, with the box, manual, extra stuff and of course it deserves to be bought.

my opinion nothing else

yes yes, death to fanboys

finally the reality begins to destroy the fantasy

no more tricks... an illusion of game play is not game play - doom 3 is more like "duckhunt 2004" in that department

Bashing aside, I am curious to see what Raven does with this. We already have the dark game with Doom 3 and we already have generic run and gun with...er...everything Quake.

Dopefish.......LIVES!

Wishing it was a sequel to the original Quake :(,

Well, the atmosphere is nice and tense, the models are very highly detailed and cool, but after about the 40th imp jumps out from behind a wall panel, you get kinda tired of it. I want to be SCARED not STARTLED! Shit, anyone can jump out and go boo, but after the first 20 imps crouching on the other side of a door jumped out at me, I learned to approach from the side, and it's just kinda dumb to do it that much.

The levels are of coffin-size dimensions, but nicely detailed. I kinda like it, but it really has no variance to it at all. Once they start teleporting in and the dude laughs every time he pulls some "trick" on me, I just sigh, pull out the shotgun and start popping some heads.

I was hoping for much more, but at least it looks nice. Meh.

NEVER COMPARE DOOM3 to SYSTEM SHOCK 2!!!!

- System shock 2 was an immersive single-player experience

- System shock 2 had an atmosphere of tension and suspense

- System shock 2 has high replay value and is still an enjoyable game to play years after release

- System shock 2 required more from the player than a trigger finger

Doom3 blows chunks, Serious Sam is more involving than this overhyped mediocrity.

I remember hearing something along the lines of 300,000 copies in the first week. I'm sure Doom3 will hit the 1 million mark easily.

So what you are saying is it's just a top seller?

PC game publishers should take after games like Live For Speed www.liveforspeed.net They have a nice business model where you just download the game and the full game actually works as a demo and when you purchase the game through their website they give you a key that works for only 1 hour.

Thats a horrible idea, though it's a great idea if you want the pc gaming industry to do even worse.

I probably still would have paid for Doom 3, but there are others that were bad that I regretted buying.

I buy so few darn games I always ends up getting (and therefore playing) just the big blockbusters (UT, HL, JKII, UT2k4, Doom3, will get HL2 and Dungeon Seige II). I'm rarely disappointed with the games because I don't play enough different games to "gamble" much on the B-list or many "lesser" A-list titles.

That said, I'm really enjoying Doom 3. Yes, Alpha Labs was a bit long and dark to get through, but right now I'm (secret) through Hell and Delta Labs and entered the CPU Complex - think I'm getting close to finishing and other than some excessively annoying spawning of enemies, the game has been a lot of fun. It is what I expected - dark, creepy, detailed, full of things that will sometimes make you jump. I think it's worth what I paid for the single-player experience, but that's just me. Mods and add-ons may extend the life span of the game for me, as well.
