I probably still would have paid for Doom 3, but there are others that were bad that I regretted buying.
I buy so few darn games I always ends up getting (and therefore playing) just the big blockbusters (UT, HL, JKII, UT2k4, Doom3, will get HL2 and Dungeon Seige II). I'm rarely disappointed with the games because I don't play enough different games to "gamble" much on the B-list or many "lesser" A-list titles.
That said, I'm really enjoying Doom 3. Yes, Alpha Labs was a bit long and dark to get through, but right now I'm (secret)
through Hell and Delta Labs and entered the CPU Complex - think I'm getting close to finishing and other than some excessively annoying spawning of enemies, the game has been a lot of fun. It is what I expected - dark, creepy, detailed, full of things that will sometimes make you jump. I think it's worth what I paid for the single-player experience, but that's just me. Mods and add-ons may extend the life span of the game for me, as well.
