Well, that first movie is shockingly bad: the graphics look mid-90s, the voices were annoying, the whole thing seemed cartoony and dumb. Ack!

Fortunately some of the other movies have looked a lot better.

Well, yes. The original Tribes would have sucked horribly had it not been for the bug known as "skiing." Have you watched any of the replays that came with the game? Terrible stuff. Vehicles were suppose to play a major role in the original game, but with skiing, there was no reason to use them. With Tribes 2, Dynamix tried to force the original vision of the game upon the players, nerfing physics and speed and making vehicles completely overpowered. This, coupled along with the buggy state of the game, drove tons of Tribes players away from the game.

Irrational seems to be taking the series away from the vehicle focus, which is definitely a good thing. They are also adding major new additions to the gameplay which should lead the way for new strategies and roles. Exciting stuff, indeed.

As for T1 with better graphics, I guess its just our curse that sierra handed it off to a good dev team, one who could come up with ideas on their own, and not someone like valve that just rehashes the same old shit for the past 5 years in a new engine.

is anyone else having problems with the "level 4" movie? Doesn't seem to be a valid download.

I know everybody may not agree with my view, but is it really too much to ask for T:V to just be tribes 1 with better graphics ???

Actually, that would probably be asking too little. If T:V were merely T1 with better graphics, it would get old. All the roles, tactics, etc, would remain the same. With the introduction of the grappling hook, the useful medium armor, etc, it seems like a lot of new tactics and roles will emerge from T:V. I'm glad to see that. I've played both T1 and T2 for years (including competitive play) and I can honestly say that the most fun I had was when I was learning how to play T1. I'm hoping T:V will be able to replicate some of this novel feeling.

Hmm.. ahhh... ummmm... Okay, RPG = Good, doesn't work for us here. You're going to have to expand on that. Bless!

i played Q1 as well as Doom, wolfenstein, Duke3d.. all that shit.. and i played heros quest and space quest and kings quest too, and wasteland, and yeh I played alot of Rogue when i was a kid

Ninja Captain your grasp of history is amazingly precise. Did you ever actually play Q1? Sure, we both know what mods there were for Q1 but did you ever play them? No pressure. If you did play them, was there a certain amount of self-wettage going on? Can you describe how much. If you prefer I can treat ignoring my question to mean 25% of a litre. If you prefer.

yeh some Q1 mods had it too - but i didnt own a computer at that time so it doesnt jump to mind quite as easily

i just played the HELL out of that Q2 CTF tho... and Jailbreak too..

I have fond memories of extremely late nights of Quake deathmatch on quake.provide.net. I always played there because it had a grappling hook.

if you miss that then you just have to play threewave CTF on quake3, the Classic CTF (CCTF) mode is truly excelent, and well mimic's the brilliant Q1/2 style CTF gameplay.
