Ships Ahoy - Marine Heavy Gunner: Vietnam

Groove Games sends along the announcement of the launch of websites for Marine Sharpshooter II: Jungle Warfare and Marine Heavy Gunner: Vietnam, while sending word that the latter game should be available in North America by tomorrow:
TORONTO - August 16, 2004 - Groove Games, global publisher of interactive entertainment, today announced the shipping of the next game in their top- selling Marine series, where gamers get to experience elite specialist assignments in the military. Marine Heavy Gunner: Vietnam hits most major retail store shelves this week giving players the opportunity to handle the biggest, meanest guns the US military can build.
"We really hit on something with the success of Marine Sharpshooter which gave gamers the opportunity to assume the position of one of the world's most deadly silent military assets," said Jon Walsh, CEO of Groove Games.
"The military's Special Forces are the elite of the elite and we wanted to continue capturing that experience for gamers. Marine Heavy Gunner: Vietnam was a natural follow-up to Sharpshooter and does just that."
As a Marine Heavy Gunner, players will assume the role of operating several of the military's powerhouse brute force weapons. Set in the middle of the Vietnam War, you and your platoon must track down a ruthless enemy leader and rescue your fallen comrades from a remote POW camp. Your mission will take you deep into the Vietnam jungle, across rivers, into tunnels and up heavily defended hills against overwhelming odds.
In addition to a fully scripted cinematic story spanning 10 massive levels, Marine Heavy Gunner: Vietnam was developed using the UnrealĀ® engine which means incredibly detailed graphics and impressive effects that help immerse the player in their role as a heroic heavy gun expert. Gameplay is varied and strategic; your platoon fights alongside you and provides ammo and necessary medical attention throughout your missions. Gamers will also be challenged with strategically placing claymores, traps and explosives to clear bridges and other obstacles.

You talking to me or MMO, MB? If me, that wasn't flaming.

And that's fine, MMO.. that's your own opinion. Just thought it was funny that you wouldn't play any game with even slightly outdated graphics. Yeah, UT2k4's graphics suck, don't they?

Ive been playing computer games and video games for 20 years now, if not longer. And I cant remember a single game that was much better in gameplay while being a lot worse in graphics than the game with the best graphics at its time. No, you cant compare computer games to handheld games or simulations to FPS in this case. The only game I remember being a bit like it was doom2 vs duke3d. duke had better graphics, but for me the gameplay sucked. but I knew very well, if I played that game a lot more than doom (or as much), I would have liked the gameplay more than dooms. And those games were even apart 1 or 2 years.
so please close your flame hole, you obviously have a reason to flame, but its not the reason why you said it in the first place (better graphics vs. gameplay).

Yes, in a FPS, graphics is very important to me. I also don't go backwards and play outdated games. I don't play any game for more than a couple of months no mater how good it is, because I get sick of it.

Please, go ahead and name some games that I would be missing out on if from now on I avoid playing games that are based on the old unreal engine. I prefer games like Far Cry, Doom 3, and potentially Half Life 2.. T:V.. games that make use of the latest graphics cards. I also refuse to play the once great game, pac-man, but maybe that's hilarious too?

First we're apologizing for Bryan Adams, then Sea-Lion Dion, Tom Green, now Groove Games. They're actually like 4 blocks from my place, I think I'll go burn them down tonight. Once again, Canada is sincerely sorry for this game.

I have the ability to speak to dead people. I am channeling their signal, I can only pick up one at a time. I see the name "Mimi"

She speaks:

oh children why have you no respect for the dead? we have people coming from all walks of life, from natural disasters, and one of your own dies and you ridicule him? i spend my life caring for others, garnering several awards and salutations, and yet, none of this seems to have rubbed off on my grandsons pupils. it is certainly a shame and it breaks my old maggot-infested heart. do not follow the ways of satan, instead have respect for us dead ducks and please please do what the Almighty professes.

What the hell are you talking about? Your comment was that you're done with Unreal engine based games since playing D3.. as if the graphics are the only thing that matters in a game. So you'd rather play a crap game over a great game so long as it has better graphics? Silly.

I didn't say anything about the Unreal engine being better than Doom's new engine. And where did you get that I'm bashing D3? I've got D3 and am enjoying it a lot. No need to get defensive there.

Well, in screenshot 10, the guy is holding a flashlight and a pistol at the same time. Some people seem to think that's an improvement over D3

Yeah right, Heavy Gunner: vietnam is graphically superior to D3. I think you've been smoking too many rice paddies. Name one unreal engine based game that is. Oh I forgot, it's cool to bash D3 these days.

...it's not their primary language, but it's still hilarious.

After playing D3, I think I'm done with Unreal engine based games.

No, your last comment is hilarious.

I'll buy this game if, and only if, I can play as John Kerry.

Ahh, you want a game with where you are able to injure yourself and then order your own purple heart because of it?

Great. First we had 8,000 WW2 shooters. Now get ready for 8,000 Vietnam shooters.

The Japanese are the masters of the power name. If this was a Japanese game it would be called Hyper Heavy Gunner Super Alpha X: Go Go Marine Recon Patrol Force.

OMG! That if funny as hell.

Those screenies definitely have "budget title" stamped all over them - and even then, n-Fusion's old Line Of Sight: Vietnam looked alot better for its bargain bin price.

I'm a big fan of sniper stories, like in the books "One Shot, One Kill" and the one on Carlos Hathcock. So, dying for a cool, simulation sniper game, I got sucked in by Marine Sharpshooter I. What a mistake. That game was bad. Avoid this. This is for Wal-Mart shoppers only.

Still wishing some developer would make a game that accurately depicts real sniper missions...
