Making of DOOM 3

Much-Anticipated Doom 3 Finally Complete (thanks HomeLAN Fed) is an AP article on the now-complete shooter. Also, Shacknews has word that some of the id guys will be burning some midnight oil at tonight's Best Buy dealie in Plano (story). Finally, The Age of Doom on the Time Magazine Website has an article from the quintessential mainstream publication on the production behind DOOM 3. The article also offers some history behind the original DOOM in a look at the early days at id, a bit on what the new game is like, an analysis of the economics involved, and the opinion that hardcore gaming has indeed gone mainstream:
Although conventional wisdom has it that games like id's appeal to just a narrow, nerdy hard-core subculture, they're actually wildly popular. Even before Doom 3 hits stores, 6 of the top 10 computer games in June were hard core. And two other games of that ilk, Halo 2 and Half-Life 2, are expected to post big numbers later this year. Universal Pictures has a Doom movie set to film in Prague this winter, with producer John Wells — of such respectable fare as ER and The West Wing — attached. (The Rock reportedly has his sights set on the starring role.) The hard core has become the mainstream. This isn't a subculture, it's a culture.

It's true. What'd ya expect.. this is DOOM we're talking about guys, not exactly Oscar material. Simple plot.. and who the heck even remembers what the plot WAS anyways? Big guy shooting everything that moves. Pretty freeeakin simple.

Edit: Ok, fine. It was little guys shooting everything that moves. We'll have Joe Pesci and Danny DeVito starring.
