The Multi Theft Auto Website now offers a new version 0.4.1 of the Multi Theft Auto modification that adds multiplayer support to Grand Theft Auto. Word is: "The MTA Team is proud to announce the release of MTA 0.4.1, which builds on top of MTA 0.4′s features to drastically reduce bandwidth and increase stability (although, crashes still exist)."

I guess the 400 people playing it right now, and almost every other time of the day, don't find it fun at all ... ah well, as long as one person finds it fun then it is worth it for a FREE project.

You should probably work on making it fun to play.

Actually, that is a common misconception. The ORIGINAL release, this is well over a year ago, took advantage of some old code that was left in to make things a little easier. Since about June 2003 we have been doing everything on our own, not using any of the internal functions that were never completed.

It's not that amazing.

They were only able to do this because rockstar left their old multiplayer code in the game.

Besides, Rockstar said they didn't just want to tack deathmatch to it, they wanted to do something completely different - which knowing Rockstar - they will.

The amazing thing about MTA is despite Rockstars insistance of not putting any type of MP in their games, that it would "take too long" (among other reasons) is people who use MTA to get into the game create their own gameplay. Every time I've played one or two people would organize something and everyone would have a ball. in other words, GTA open ended gameplay extends into its MP. I'm baffled that Rockstar can see this and not do something to foster the community with some workable netcode and a small SDK. Thats all they'd have to do for this to take off.
