Half-Life 2 Imminent?

HalflifeSource (thanks HomeLAN Fed) is reporting news from Valve's Doug Lombardi, saying: "Half-Life 2 will be passed on to publisher Vivendi for final mastering and duplication within days for it's early August target. The official appearance will make store shelves sometime in mid to late September."

Here I thought I was the only one who hasn't played the first Half-Life. All these years of shame are over. Now I can feel free knowing there are others like me...:)

Anyways, now that they are planning to re-release the original game updated to Source (free with HL2...anyone know?), maybe I'll end up buying HL2 afterall.

Lol. I am not going to limit myself to only one or two games, bring them all on.

though constant announcements from Valve are kinda getting old..I am with the shut-up-until-it's-really-done crowed on this one

I fully agree with you. I love how the makers of Rome: Total War handled the release date of their game, "It will be done when it is done".

WOO HL2! Fuk DOOM 3 and it's stupid XP only BS.

haha, looks like win98 owners are really a mean bunch as the other thread proved.
I am looking forward to HL2 and I will buy it though I would prefer to have it released AFTER I finish Doom 3 SP. Nothing like having 2 AAA titles released at the same time and not knowing what to play first..

Hopefully STALKER will come out too. Don't know if that's a realistic goal or not, though.

The Chinese need to add a new sign to their astrological chart. This is no longer the Year of the Monkey, but the Year of the Game. There are many good games coming out this year (hopefully) and many of them have the potential to go above and beyond call of duty. Such as HL 2, Doom 3, Halo 2, Rome: Total War, and Fable.

Here is to hoping HL 2 will be out soon and be as good as it looks. (I haven't actually played the first HL.)

It wouldn't surprise me if in the near future comapnies start releasing games in segments. Imagine if Half-life 2 was broken up into 4 chapters and each chapter was released every 4-6 months (real-world not valve time).

If your game sells good you keep making it, if it tanks then you don't.

Then at the end you can still release your "Brand new super duper platinum game of the year award version" (uh..I mean game of the two year award)

well, I just tried steam for the first time. only had problems, lockups and lags. besides its too damn unefficient and complicated to use. why do so many clicks and password typing if you just want to play a quick game of CS??? the server browser sucks also and is very slow even with filters. then when it finally worked it didnt show any chat messages in-game anymore, I tried to fix that and suddenly steam wanted to re-download ALL of the games. if steam is really required for this game for mp I wont buy it. I deleted steam already anyway.

What the company should do is start selling the iso online, instead of on-demand gaming.

VU has to know that they can only sell HL2 simply for singe-player purposes. Just as for CS:CZ, Steam is going to be required for any multiplayer gaming. I plan on getting HL2 through Steam.

steam is required to play online, but you get access to steam with the full boxed version. really, unless valve offers a discount for online purchases you are better of buying it from the store.

Are there still 50k CS players online these days? I believed the reason there were so many people is that the majority had low end systems and couldn't run many newer games out there. I'd be surprised if there are that many now with the steam requirement.. which I believe also happens to require higher system specs than CS itself.

It will be interesting to see how many people show up online with HL2.

I dont really play much Multiplayer, but last I checked CS was the biggest Online Multplayer, boasting somewhere around 50k players a day, I know thats not exact but enought ot make the point.

Even if Doom looks better on some level/scale, with very limited Multiplayer offerings, it will need to the one month head start.
Once HL hits shelves Multiplayer community (which as I said im not really part of)is going to EXPLODE, imo.

I dont think Valve is sitting in a corner quivering and weeping that Doom is coming out, nor do I think that of Id.

The viciousness was unreal. And of course the worst of the comments was that somehow Valve fabricated the entire theft "story" because the game was never going to meet the September 30, 2003 release date anyway

The majority of comments were because it was said the delay was caused by the theft, when in fact delay was because content was nowhere near being finished. It's hard to feel sorry for someone who's lying to you.

That's exactly why it only makes sense to me to download it on the "gold" day, weeks before the CDs are on the shelf, or just get the CD online/locally on release day.

I completely agree with you guys saying you would rather have the physical cd. If I pay 50 bucks for a game than I'm going to want to make sure I know exactly where it is. As far as the release date, I'm still a bit weary of this date because they did this last year and it got delayed a year. I just want them to finish this game and release it already..
