Half-Life 2 Imminent?

HalflifeSource (thanks HomeLAN Fed) is reporting news from Valve's Doug Lombardi, saying: "Half-Life 2 will be passed on to publisher Vivendi for final mastering and duplication within days for it's early August target. The official appearance will make store shelves sometime in mid to late September."

Agreed.

On a different note. I see tons of people shouting about moids this mods that for the new source engine because it is half life 2. They fail to realize why there were so many mods for the first half life was the fact that hundreds of mod makers were so used to it from being Quake 2 based. Thus the easy transition.

Just because it says Half Life on the box does not mean their engine will be easy mod accessable. Nor does it guarantee a fast SDK. We heard the same mutter about Far Cry and well that is dieing real fast as far as mod talk.

If it's really done by early August they should be able to put it on Steam. Or do they have to make the virtual boxes....

"Man, Valve really has to shut the fuck up about *possible* release dates until the damn thing is gold. Just shut up. id software got it, why the hell don't these guys?"

Because they are actually making their own engine now, and not using Id's. They didnt realize how massive it would be on their own.

Only a year late, kids...

Quick, someone steal the source code again!

Ever since the theft of the source code I've seen these kinds of sarcastic remarks from gamers who have the maturity and intellectual capacity of a turd. Unbelieveable to me how many of them were screaming bloody murder that the theft of 5 years worth of work could possibly *gasp* delay the release Half-Life 2. The viciousness was unreal. And of course the worst of the comments was that somehow Valve fabricated the entire theft "story" because the game was never going to meet the September 30, 2003 release date anyway (the game was going to miss it's release date, but the theft was obviously very real). What a bunch of rubbish. I felt terrible for Valve, and was fully expecting the release date to be pushed back indefinitely after such an incident. The last thing I was thinking about was not getting "my game" to play when I wanted it, but rather hoping Valve would be able to pull through and not incur a financial disaster having to rewrite major portions of the engine. All most idiot gamers cared about was that somehow Valve lied to them and they went from being the most respected company in the industry to the most hated because of a mistake on their end in not properly securing their network. Meanwhile all Valve has ever done is tried to please the gaming community and they got royally slapped in the face for being a little over optimistic on a release date as a "thank you."

Sometimes I don't know why/how game devs do it. Gamers as a whole are the most selfish, cruel, immature, thankless bunch of people around. Everything revolves around them, and heaven help you if you're a devoloper who accidentally pisses off this fickle bunch.

"Mark my word... Half-Life 2 will go GOLD on August 4th when DOOM 3 gets on shelves. Then we should see a late september early novemeber shelf date"

So why will it take almost 2 months to get ont he shelf after going gold announcement. Will it be a farse announcement if it takes that long to shelf it?

The stupidity is strong in this thread.

By the way, HL2 will sell more copy them DOOM3 and you know it. Not that it actually means anything. Oh, and this is not really news. Valve's been saying the same thing for a week or two.

You know the game is gonna suck balls if they have to hype it every damn day for over a year.

They are both going to be excellent but for different reasons. My brain [and my bladder] are going to explode, I am going to finish DOOM 3 and HL2 will be there ready to be played.
