When I first installed XP I kept dual boot for win 98 so I can play my games in win98 and do everything else in XP. Well it turned out that I never ever actually went to 98 because all games worked perfect in XP so when I upgraded hard drive I just ditched 98 altogether
That is exactly what I did when I first upgraded to Win 2k. Had a dual-boot, but I got sick and tired of the crashes and BSoD in Win 98. Finally deleted the Win 98 partition and never looked back.
I just upgraded to Win XP Pro about a month ago, and I have it set up so that it looks and feels like Win 2k. The boggest difference between Win 2k and XP is the MUCH faster boot time under XP. Booting up takes about 15 seconds in XP, compared to couple of minutes it used to take in Win 2k, and almost 5 minutes (if I remember correctly) in Win 98. Of course, all three OSes were not on the same system, so almost like apples and oranges. But they were on the latest, fastest computer at the time.
Take it for what it's worth, ditch Win 98 and upgrade at least to Win 2K. There really is a HUGE difference in terms of stability.
I just realized something. All these complaints about bloatware on succeeding OSes can be used against each successive ID engine as well. Think about it
