Out of the Blue

I got the BlueTruck back from the shop... the new shocks have been installed, but DrWrench discovered another issue with the suspension, it seems that a connector on the rear sway bar had disconnected, a further explanation for its rough ride lately. The thing here is that this is the third noticeable issue of this sort that has gone undiagnosed by the local dealer where they perform my scheduled maintenance. Prior to missing the sway bar (which is hanging literally an inch from the shock they discovered was leaking), they also failed to notice any brake wear through several tire rotations and such until the brakes were irreparable and needed replacing, and they also missed a broken hose through at least one oil change that involved inspecting the hoses and belts. Strike three and they are out... I guess I can only blame myself for this, though, as there are certainly enough folks out there who will testify that the car dealer is probably not the place to go for repairs and maintenance. I guess I now qualify as one of them. Yeesh.

Control your puddle, easy with the whip.

I wouldn't sweat it too much, MIG welding is relatively easy.

Thanks guys! I do plan on making puh-lenty of practice runs before even attempting anything on the car. The exhaust system will be left to the professionals.

edit: looks like I need practice with the Chatbear tags too...

"They're at it again..."

Tone what down? They started it, I'm just finishing it. I'm so sick of those tired old myths and lies on the right

Hah, sounds like my little cousin. I didn't start anything. I told you in my post that those were just my opinions and didn't want to start a flame. What myths and lies are you talking about? The ones you stated? The democrats have plenty of their own.

Pro-gun for self protection (not to kill) and sport
So you would take a life?

PilotCman said it best with, "Only if my life and my families life depended on it." But as you see, I also said 'not to kill', meaning I wouldn't shoot-to-kill unless taking out a leg or something didn't stop 'em. You assume too much.

Pro-war only if the cause is right, as I said.
So life really isn't sacred than, is it?

Yeah, it seems that way if you're a terrorist. You think we should just sit here with our tails between our legs waiting for the next attack?

A fetus is not a person

I, too, say that is your opinion, as Warhawk said. The heart of a fetus begins to beat with the child’s own blood less than a month after he/she is conceived.

I was just curious how someone who claims life is so sacred can possibly be in favor of an instrument of death

Hey, how 'bout we just let all the criminals have the guns? If the police and military didn't have guns, then how will they stop people that do? Same thing goes for private citizens who want to keep their selves and familes safe. I'm all for strick background checks and such for gun permits, but why take them away? If someone wants to get a gun to do harm, they'd be able to get one illegally anyways.

Oh, and Tim's got you on the 'emmigrating' thing.. you did add an extra 'm' in there. Although, I'm no English major so grammer and spelling aren't my best subjects. I've probably got a few mistakes myself.

Bah, I didn't want to talk that much. I'm going back outside to do some work.

"A fetus is not a person."

That is your opinion. A viable human being, to me, is a person. I am not saying abortion in EVERY case is bad, but it is used WAY too often as just another method of contraception. Think about that BEFORE you drop your undies, not after. I still have no idea how abortion = right to privacy.

"No one is pro-abortion."

I disagree - have you ever seen all those pro-abortion rallies that take place in DC (with all the lib actresses leading the way)? They are pro-abortion, not just pro-choice (to me it's all semantics anyway, if you are for one, you're for the other). Whatever happened to the oath "Do no harm" when becoming a doctor, an oath specifically renouncing abortion?

"It is, however, a personal choice"

It is, however, murder of someone incapable of defending him- or herself.

"I was just curious how someone who claims life is so sacred can possibly be in favor of an instrument of death."

Because of some little thing called the Constitution. I like to think it's still the law of the land. The point is, guns are the great equalizer (when used properly) - old ladies and other "weaker" members of society can protect themselves against against anyone. It's called self-defense.

"The statistics prove you wrong."

In fact, they do not. When has someone who has been put to death for a crime ever committed another? Kinda difficult 6 feet under. A rationally and correctly applied death penalty and revamped sentencing system would greatly reduce crime. The problem is, stockbrokers get 20 years for stealing money in trades and gang members get 5 years for killing someone and do it again within a week of release. Does any of this make sense to you?

"We subsidize everything else - and to far greater degree - so why not people? Trillions in subsidies and tax breaks for corporations and the rich is ok, but helping out people who really need it is wrong? Why not just execute them? Slave labor camps maybe? They're indentured servants already."

That's the problem, the vast majority of these subsidies need to be abolished. You assume I agree with a lot of things I do not. I do not see how some people who cannot get off the couch and find a job is "someone who really needs it" - apparently they just do not want to work for it. I have no problem with a very limited form of welfare to help out those who need a hand for a couple months, but it has become a lifestyle, a dependency on others that does nobody any good. When did I say anything about camps or executions? You're being absurd. This position on welfare obviously does not include those medically unable to work (through birth defects, accidents, etc., however, drug dependency and other willful choices do not qualify here).

"I guess being anti-choice is how you assuage your guilt for everything else."

I have no guilt "for everything else" - why should I? I want everyone to take responsibility for their actions. You do not work, you do not get the rewards for work (a place to live and free money paid for by those who do). You act irresponsibly, there are consequences for your actions. You wantonly kill people - have a nice time in a toasty place hanging out with the 9/11 attackers, sped up a bit by the judicial system.

There is no hypocricy in being pro-life and pro-death penalty. One is taking of a life which deserves to live, the other is speeding up the end of a life deemed forfeited by the law and judicial system based on that person's willful disregard for human life. Sorry if that is difficult to comprehend.

damn videos make it look so easy!

I wouldn't sweat it too much, MIG welding is relatively easy. With a little practice and the right heat settings you'll be able to fill 1/4" gaps with that baby. And as far as the flux core wire goes, I've never used it myself and am just spouting off from bad word of mouth.

Seriously though, here are a couple things I tell new welders that go beyond basic puddle control:

1. Make sure you're in a position to finish the weld (not just start the weld) without getting all bound up. Before you pull the trigger, move the gun to the end of your intended weld path just to see if you can do it without straining.

2. Get your head up close so you can really see what you're doing.

3. Relax your grip, arms, and shoulders.

Here's a quick tip on that (in case you don't already know this): if you're buying a little MIG machine for yourself, don't go for the cheap ones that can only use the flux core wire - in other words, they don't need the bottled gas. Believe me, it's worth the extra trouble and $$ to rent a small bottle of gas. That flux core wire is crap.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> D'OH!!! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Well, my reasoning was this - I don't know how much welding I'll be doing after the panels are done, so I didn't want to sink too much into a welder that wouldn't be getting any use (though I could always eBay it I guess). I didn't want to rent one because by the time I get good enough to actually do a decent job, I could have just taken the money and bought the equipment instead. And the guys around here that can do bodywork are usually booked solid, and again, for what these guys charge I could just get the equipment and try it myself. Plus it makes a nice skill to have just in case...

I was debating on whether or not to go with the gas. I'll slap myself later.

Other than that - practice, practice, practice.

Heh, I'll have to take a pic of my first trial runs... damn videos make it look so easy!

Good lord, did you not graduate grade school? Most people have basic literacy down by grade six.

You are the one who clearly had distain for the United States.

Distain? Disdain. Had? Has.

The fact is Halsey

It's Halsy, not Halsey. It's right there in the upper right of the post and you still misspell it?

if President Bush was re-elected you would want succession in the United States,

Succession?

The only thing worse to you then President Bush staying in office is Bush staying in office and being successful.

He's had four years and all he's managed to do is screw up and screw people. Do you - and I use the word loosely - think four more years would change anything for the better?

For you to say that there would be a succession because his reelection only shows your maniacal distain for America.

I'm assuming you mean re-election, secession, and disdain. And no, it only proves that Bush is a divider, not the uniter he always claims he is.

You don’t want the country to do well as long as there is a republican in the Executive office.

I'd love to see it. It's just never happened in my lifetime, and I doubt it ever will. Every republican president in my lifetime has been a complete and utter failure for America.

And I have distain?

It would seem so.

You are a fool whose day was long ago.

That may be, but at least I can spell, write, think critically, and possess a formal education. That's something most republican voters sorely lack. Thanks for helping to illustrate that so clearly.

Don’t deny you’re a socialist.

I've never denied I'm a social democrat. I'm very proud of it. You make it sound like trying to ensure all mankind has a better life is something to be ashamed of. I well and truly pity you. What a small and pitiful existence you lead.

PS: It's immigrating.

PS: BUZZ. Sorry, Tim, wrong again. Would you care to go for double jeopardy?

Emigrant, Immigrant. Emigrant and emigration have reference to the country from which the migration is made; the correlative words immigrant and immigration have reference to the country into which the migration is made, the former marking the going out from a country, the latter the coming into it.

Choice = murder of the unborn.

A fetus is not a person. And better terminate an unwanted pregnancy, than bring another person into an overcrowed world who won't be properly cared for emotionally and financially and then only goes one (most likely) to be part of the problematic cycle instead of the solution. No one is pro-abortion. It's not like anyone enjoys the thought of it or doing it. It is, however, a personal choice that the religious right needs to respect. I don't try and enforce my values on the religious right, so why do thy think they should be able to enforce theirs on mine?

What's wrong with pro-gun?

I don't have a real problem with guns. I was just curious how someone who claims life is so sacred can possibly be in favor of an instrument of death.

Without war, one cannot have peace.

Yeah, Ghandi really kicked England's ass. Nice use of Orwellian Newspeak, war is peace. LOL!

Death is a heck of a deterrant to the repeat offenders of murders and other very serious crimes

The statistics prove you wrong. Most capital crimes are crimes of passion anyway. Most people aren't considering the consequences when they kill. They simply (re)act and make the wrong choice. Capital punishment has never proved an effective deterrant at all. Regardless, I'm still for it for personal reasons.

I do not like the government taking the money I worked for and giving it to lazy slobs on couches.

We subsidize everything else - and to far greater degree - so why not people? Trillions in subsidies and tax breaks for corporations and the rich is ok, but helping out people who really need it is wrong? Why not just execute them? Slave labor camps maybe? They're indentured servants already.

Wow, you're quite the christian. I guess being anti-choice is how you assuage your guilt for everything else. gg hypocrisy.

Now I just need to get a hang of MIG welding so I can replace a couple body panels...)

Also, and this is very important, if you get a little 120 volt machine, do not use more than one short extension cord on that sucker. If possible, plug it directly into the wall.

Oh, and get a good helmet, seeing what you're doing is helpful. And are you trying to choke that thing? Relax those forarms and hands... that's it, see how easy that is? I almost forgot, make sure your welding hat is really high and pointy, when you wear it to the bank you want those cute tellers to wonder if your real name is Beldar. One last thing, and this is important, when you finish a weld and the metal is glowing orange, IT DOES NOT TASTE LIKE ORANGES!! DO NOT LICK THE ORANGE METAL!!!! I CAN NOT STRESS THIS STRONGLY ENOUGH!!! DO NOT LICK THE ORANGE METAL!!!!

Other than that - practice, practice, practice.

Death is a heck of a deterrant to the repeat offenders of murders and other very serious crimes. What is the use of life sentences? Same thing, just quicker

That’s what's called hypocrisy. An unborn child is just a fetus and is in no-way more valuable than a Human life. The death penalty is state-sponsored murder IMO. You can't make the point of saying murder is wrong by killing someone. That and it costs more than life in prison. Only other coutntries that have state-sponored murder are china, iran and ect and I don't want to be in that exclusive club.

Social programs are what make this country great and every 1st world country has social programs. It gives the poor tools to get on their feet make a life for themselves.
