IGN is
reporting a name change for Liquid Entertainment's upcoming project previously
known by the minimalist working title D&D RTS. The project will henceforth be
known as Dragonshard Wars, and there will apparently be no actual reference to
Dungeons and Dragons in the title.
It makes sense that they would make it Ebberon. Lets face it, WotC is into marketting. By changing this RTS title to the new setting, they get its name out there even more. As Yogurt says... "Moichendising, moichendising, moichendising".
Seconded... It IS based off the new campaign setting Eberron and the name Dragonshard is appropriate for what it is, not some stupid generic fantasy name.
RE: the random apostrophe, in this case, it's the land of Xen'drik.
Not that I have a problem with that - Eberron is a great setting. I look forward to reading the reviews on this one. The base-building strats this game focuses on could be interesting.
Just stick two words together, no hyphens, and an instant cheesy, crap fantasy name can be yours. Excuse me, I meant a CheesyCrap Name of FantasySounding. Neverwinter, Morrowind, Dragonshard, GimmeABreak.
Atari would be ok as a publisher in this area, ONLY if they would follow id's statements of say "It'll be done when its done". If they would take the time to polish thier games up a bit and get away from having to put out patchs..... But unfortunatly a deadline is a deadline.
I kind of wonder if Atari doesn't announce these things as D&D titles to get internet geeks interested, then remove the license references to avoid having to pay WOTC. Eh, Atari is such a horrible steward for the D&D license. Hopefully WOTC will pick another publisher for it sometime soon.
Yay, any hope of a computer RPG with a faintly interesting and realistic skill based system (like RuneQuest)? Ditch D&D and all its baggage (Greyhawk, levelling, armour points and shit) it was always a crap RPG system and computer RPGs can do far better.
