Out of the Blue

On the day I will hopefully be returning my rented Pacifica I got to test the most vital aspect of any vehicle nominated for the role of the BlueMobile; the ability to make emergency stops. As I have noted before, I am like catnip for stupid drivers, and can produce a couple of witnesses who will confirm that they've never seen anyone have to deal with nearly so many folks going haywire in his path. This morning it was a Mercedes ML500 that decided that since there was time for the car before it to make it off the exit ramp into town (oh the joys of attracting commuters from the surrounding area to our train station), there must be enough time for them to make it too (not even close). Naturally enough this was right in my path, but the Pacifica stopped on a dime (crappy stock tires and all). To her credit (I guess), when the Mercedes driver heard my horn, she made a swerve that would have helped me out if I hadn't been able to stop that very nearly put her into the guard rail... but I really would have rathered she just had looked to see of the coast was clear.

Mine made it here (to the local sort facility) around 4 am!!!!
Though, they are not going to deliver it until Monday, so I am off to see if I can pick it up instead of waiting!!

I also add another vote for themed logos in some way!
Though, I guess they do add quite a bit of bandwidth.

*edit*
Yes, I helped, and I also think Zatarains (the Cajun seasoned product company!) was the other?! Though, I think he prefers the name Zatharus. But Zatarains is a cute name, are you gonna “spice it up” Zatay?

Check around, day by day. Many places are expecting stock within the next seven days, check your local stores for availability (CompUSA, BestBuy, etc. - you can check them all online,) and even check the individiaul card manufacturers. Even when a card is in stock, it will fly off the shelf fairly quickly.

Poor ATI and NVIdia; I think people are buying pretty much either card that they can get a hold of. Yay for paper launches!

Meanwhile, there will be rush for those 512MB, Doom 3-loving cards by the start of next year...

Wondering if anybody wants my cheap 9800xt :(,
Ray

Whos ass do I need to kiss to get a geforce 6800 gt around here!? I can't find any place that sells them.

Looks like me, Ray, and I think Enahs (and someone else?) ran EVGA out of stock. Whoops. Sorry about that!

Good news is they're shipping more on the 2nd...Ray got his card today, and mine's due on Tuesday.

HL2 has a great backstory, and if the second is as good as the first in that regard it'll be a ton of fun - amazing new eye candy aside.

If I were only allowed to play one or the other, I'd choose HL2 in a heartbeat. The reason I love DOOM is because I have such fond memories of it when it first came out (remember Castle Wolfenstein and Spear of Destiny?). Particularly DOOM 2. I used to work for EA many moons ago and we used to have these ass-kicking deathmatches on the company LAN. You have to remember that up untill that point, it'd never been done. So it was a hell of an exciting experience. We'd literally play all night long. People screaming and trash talking each across the office. It was a blast!

Still, in spite of that, HL the first shooter to become something more than just a shooter. It was one of those amazing firsts, sort of like Fallout. It transformed the genre and moved it forward. I hope HL2 will do the same once again.

As for having a POS PC, get a better one. I know you're young but you can always get a job in hospitality as a busboy. When I was 16 I got a job as a busboy in a najor hotel restaurant, was great cash for the time compared to my friends who were working fast food jobs and the like. You'll make 3 times as much doing that and most of it cash.
That could put you in a position to get yourself a nice new rig come the fall when all the PCIE stuff starts hitting the market. Can hardly wait for PCIE stuff. It's killing me waiting for it.

Either way I'm down with Dewm 3 and HL2 (color me in for Vampire the Masquerade too! Can hardly wait to see what Troika does with that.)

Oh well - there are issues with how the cookies are handled and the way the site sorts the information.

As such, I have removed my subfolders and am just going to use the generic link.

Halsy,
You like HL2 more than Doom? How come? I'm not really interested in D3 right now for a few reasons, most of which revolve around my POS pc that probably can't run it.

Because they do it damn well. DOOM 3 doesn't pretend to aspire to any great new gaming heights. Just a pretty engine and physics that scares the bejesus out of you, with unparalleled deathmatch goodness. It's pure run n' gun at it's best.

HL2, that's the game that will move the genre forward.

I must be the only hardcore gamer that cannot buy Doom3 in the first month it comes out...

I dunno about 'cannot' but if you include 'will not', you can count me in. I just don't see what the big deal is. I loved Doom and Doom II, but I got tired of it all by the time they changed the name to Quake, meanwhile everyone else was taking the FPS genre in new directions. 10 years later, and id is still stuck on 'meander through the sci-fi complex that's been overrun by demons and mutants'. And apparently, they still can't render large, open areas. Good Grief, didn't the rest of the world pass them by on this issue eons ago? What's the attraction here?
