Derek Smart calls himself a leader. Being a leader implies that you inspire others to follow you. Inspiring others to hate you is not leading.

His website makes some mention about standing apart from the crowd. That is a component of being a leader but standing apart from the crowd so you can stand in a corner banging your head against the wall most certainly isn't.

I hear you Ray... I've done more greiving lately than I had in a while. That such a painful process is so drawn-out can really take its toll.

As always, however, there are so many joyous thoughts associated with my mom that there are more and more times that I can consider her life in a happy perspective. I can only hope that the pain can slip further into the background behind those cherished memories as time goes on.

Whatever happens, I'll never stop missing her though. Since I wouldn't want to, that makes whatever pain this carries a little easier to bear.

If derek smart does Freespace 3, then they will have put the final nail in the coffin for the franchise. Freespace 1 and 2 ROCKED. "dr." smart does not have the talent do do it justice, nor can he get past his huge ego. He listens to no one, and if you post even a HINT of negativity on "his boards" he goes on a power trip and bans you from them. BTW, I just reinstalled FS2 and added the open source "mod" (Or whatever a new source code thing should be called).

It's pretty sweet, and damnit, now I know who should get the license - Valve! They should just hire some of these great fans full-time, and save us from DS.

Since this is brought up, guess its time to fire up FS2 and play that again and remember how good games where made back in the day.

Heh, this thread has more posts than both the Doom 3 ones.

There's only one conclusion to draw from this: Derek Smart is higher acclaimed than Doom 3 itself!

but what if the gamers actually took up a collection bought the Freespace franchise and made it open source? Or something like that however it may be called?

financially, it's highly unlikely anything could come from it - but it illustrates just how little confidence there is in Mr. Smart to develop a 'worthy' Freespace game.

There is already a substantial effort being made in modifying the FS2 engine to modern standards, and also planning towards making a new - from scratch - freeware 'sequel'.
