Well today I read that Doom 3 would be out first week of August. Today I hear that Derek Smart wants to acquire Freespace. Why does goodnews and badnews come as a pair?

He's just grandstanding but if he were to go through with it, once the finished project hit the shelves even his loyal toadies would abandon him because of the shit state of the game.

I would look foward to the game if:

1.) Derek liscensed a 3rd party engine.
2.) Hired professional texture and 3D artists.
3.) shared the production responsibilities with another industry veteran to temper Dereks feature-creep tendencies.
4.) A cocktail of Haldol™ and Paxil™ to be given once per day in the AM.

It would work, I'm tellin' ya...

You know I think this f*cker is just doing this to piss off the fans. He just bought the Freespace license as a way to stick it to the fans since freespace was good and his BC games have sucked.

FreeSpace2 is still in my top 5 games I've ever played... falling short behind Deus Ex, Tribes, Outcast, and Far Cry.

I see snide had the exact same idea as me. Even an ego the size of Dereck Fucking Smart can't be THAT arrogant to think that HE would create the next Freespace and it'd be everything we'd ever hoped it would be. Can it?

Comparing his battlecruiser series to Freespace is tantamount to fucking heresy. And NOT in Smart's favor.

Derek, if I had to choose between no new Freespace, or seeing you rape it, I'll choose the no new Freespace. A game of yours will NEVER see my money.

Then again, to be honest, I also can't see who Interplay would sell Freespace to that would make it any good, except the original guys from Volition, and you know they're plenty happy making shitty PSX2 shooters.
