Derek Smart and Freespace 3?

A speculative question from 3000 AD's Derek Smart on the Adrenaline Vault Forums (thanks Rake) polls interest in him acquiring the rights to Freespace 3, making the following statements in a pair of posts:
....Derek Smart, yeah, that would be me, got the license from my friends at Interplay (a publisher I had very good experiences with); would you buy Freespace 3 if I made it?

Discuss. Rave. Rant. Argue. But this is something I am seriously considering, given that it looks like Interplay has started off loading properties (starting with Fallout3). I mean, just think. Would you rather see this legacy license fall into the wrong hands?
...
I have already contacted my Interplay contact about it btw.

I admit that I'm baffled as to why the United States hasn't introduced an amendment to the Constitution prohibiting Derek Smart from having anything whatsoever to do with computer games.

I am usually very weary about amending the constitution. But, start a petition, I’ll sign it.

Maybe we should start a different petition:
“Dear Derek Smart,
Please do not attempt to obtain the Freespace franchise or intellectual property.”
I wonder how many people would sign it?

This guy must have an inheritance or something. There is no way he stays in business on his own, and contemplates a couple mil for a license like this.

And if he has the funds to seriously float an offer for IP like this.. why even bother making games? Buy a boat or something and relax, dude.

Shit, worked for us over at HLP. About 3 pages into the discussion, Mr.Smart made an appearance and graced us with three whole posts, mostly telling us how he's right and we're wrong.

For the record, I got BC3000AD imported to Brazil. It cost me *a lot*.

I'm sorry, but that just struck me as enormously funny.

Oh, dear lord.

Somehow, Derek is getting back at all of us.

Why doesn't he just buy the System Shock license why he's at it?

Truly a sad day, indeed...

Too late.

I mean no offense to Derek Smart, but I don't see this as being a move in the positive direction for the Freespace series. I'm sure there's a market for games that require you to earn a Phd only after you've written a 90-page thesis over all 300 volumes of the game manual. You know, as opposed to Falcon 4.0's 400 page manual... nevermind.

Are those the same lawyers he tried to utilize to substantiate his fradulent PhD?

I get the feeling from post #59 that if Smart gets the FS license and makes the game, by the time we've loaded out our fighters with primary weapons, secondary weapons, tertiary weapons, life support systems, navigational arrays, subspace transmitters, backup thrust fusal flux junctions, and bathroom utilities, we could've played through Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 about five times, right?
