WON to be Lost

Steam News offers details on the shutdown of the WON authentication system, which has been superseded by Steam:
Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit www.steampowered.com. Counter-Strike 1.5 players will be upgraded to Counter-Strike 1.6 free of charge through Steam.

It's amazing how many of these fanboiz sitting on their rich mommie and daddies broadband connection thinking the world revolves around them.
The MAJORITY of the worlds internet users have NO CHOICE!!!
It's dial-up or NOTHING.
We (the no choice dial-up useres) paid our money to valve so, we deserve to be able to play the game we PAID for.
Steam(ing pile of shit) WON'T install on my system. That is to say it sits there downloading and downloading untill my 4 hour limit is reached and then my connection drops. I then reconnect and Steam(ing pile of shit) refuses to resume so, i am stuffed.
VALVE CAN KISS MY ARSE. They will not get another cent from me.
I can't wait till the crackers get hold of HL2 and crack the Steam(ing pile of shit) out of it and I will revel in the single player game while simultaneously giving Valve the BIG FINGER.

I like how urge people to grow up and yet curse them in a childish manner and give them the 'finger'. Typical steam user!

I gotta tell you, I'm seriously laughing my ass off right now. I mean the literal ROTFLMAO isn't too far away from my perspective at this moment.

They gave you at least a year to get used to steam. At least a year. And during that time, you could have petitioned, yelled, screamed, and kicked about the changes but you did nothing, absolutely nothing except hold onto the past.

You deserve the extreme butt-kicking that will be coming to you when you finally decide to come upto the present, cause we won't give a flying fuck at all about your whining about how this or that isn't fair and all your little girl bullshit. We're just going to shoot you down & spraypaint your corpse and laugh at your silly 1.5 asses.

To all of you that are still on 1.5, I have a single finger in the air for you. It will remain there until you gain my respect by winning in "the latest version of the game" as it has been ever-changing since its inception 5 1/2 years ago. I played it then, I play it now, I'm never lagging or bemoaning the past like you dickheads.

GROW UP! GET UP! SHOOT NOW OR DIE!~

Valve has supported their game, HL, for SIX FULL YEARS

As opposed to what? Is there any other Valve game they should be supporting aside from Half-Life? Oh yeah, that's right, there isn't any. Aside from LAN parties, CS hasn't been on my machine for over a year. I spent way too much on this computer to play that shitty looking game anymore. Shitty in 1600X1200, but shitty nonetheless.

Look at the date people, its july 2004, valve has supported their game, HL, for SIX FULL YEARS, Go get a copy of "Sin" , a FPS released around the same time, and check out how much ritual does to keep it alive.. Noone even remembers the damn game anymore.. WON is a service, it costs money to keep it running. they've had it for six years, eventually its gotta go, face the fact, computer games cant be supported forever, Valve however has decided to port their games over to a new and better system, where they will run future games too, thus giving new life to these old games and mods.

I think it would help you to judge how nice this "patch" is if you would look up how many 1.5 servers there are still. Should I count them for you too? Wouldnt surprise me. They cut off a game for a lot of people. And no, its not a few hundred or maybe thousand. There are still LOTS of clans and even leagues that only play 1.5 because 1.6 is totally unbalanced and buggy.
Next time get your facts straight before opening your cootie sprayer.

So your issue isn't with steam, it's with a counter-strike patch.

Shut the fuck up.

Okay, for you once again: maybe it runs great (for you at least, and most other fanboys), but CS 1.5 doesnt work. CS 1.6 sucks donkey balls in all aspects. I wouldnt mind steam if valve would support everything that WON did. So crawl back under your steaming rock.

re: #19

Dude, you need a nice cup of get-over-it.

Steam works great. I have no issues with steam. Auto-updating CS when an update arrives is great. No more hunting around on login-required download servers spamming me with ads to give them money. No more waiting for my favourite CS server to manually upgrade.

Valve has supported their product better than most other companies out there, and I acknowledge that. I've gotten more hours out of half-life than any other game, period. I must have played thousands of hours over the years.

So, dude, stop thinking like the world (and valve) owes you a favour. It doesn't. Get rid of your anti-steam prejudice - it's still free and it's still fun.

If valve ever starts charging a monthly fee or something, I will stop using their product, but only then. Until that time, however, I will continue to enjoy steam-cs/dod/tfc/ns/ts/vs.

I was a CS 1.5 and TFC player. And now youve done it. I wont buy your idiocy infected HL2 crap. Just because you axed WON? YES! Stealing/destroying peoples games and forcing them to install a newer version (which simply SUCKS) doesnt get my respect and never will. 2 of my friends already told me that they wont buy it either now (they were CS 1.5 players aswell) and judged from all those countless CS1.5 servers and TFC servers out there I believe there are quite a few thinking the same right now. I am sure you have enough fanboys out there to laugh at my post, but I dont care. I never want to have valve shit on my computer again. I just deinstalled HL and ran a manual reg cleaner right away to be sure there is NOTHING left from you on my computer. And I even defended Valve in that hacker incident...
F*ck you Valve.

You can get Steam to work in linux I think but it's a pain in the ass, I haven't tried it and you might need cedega/heavy wine editing to get it to work but it has been done.
