Well, in the three days since I attempted to pinpoint the annual summer slowdown in gaming news, we've had the announcement of development of Fallout 3 and the announcement that DOOM 3 is gold. Certainly doesn't diminish the arguments that some make about sequel-mania, but it sure isn't a slowdown. This sure supports what I said at the time: "as soon as you think you've picked up all the patterns around here they will change on you."

Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, the big news kind of knocked us offline. We weren't Slashdotted, but we were FARKed (if you're going to FARK me, at least take me to dinner first). I need to see what can be done to bolster the site against such fortuitous linking turning out to be a problem in the future, but in the meantime, a HUGE thank you to Frans for working on temporary solutions to help keep things running for the moment, which is why you are able to read this. It's quite possible that some scripted elements of the site such as the news archive may be broken for all or part of today as a result, but the forums are still working, and responding properly once more.
