Out of the Blue

Well, in the three days since I attempted to pinpoint the annual summer slowdown in gaming news, we've had the announcement of development of Fallout 3 and the announcement that DOOM 3 is gold. Certainly doesn't diminish the arguments that some make about sequel-mania, but it sure isn't a slowdown. This sure supports what I said at the time: "as soon as you think you've picked up all the patterns around here they will change on you."

Unfortunately, as you may have noticed, the big news kind of knocked us offline. We weren't Slashdotted, but we were FARKed (if you're going to FARK me, at least take me to dinner first). I need to see what can be done to bolster the site against such fortuitous linking turning out to be a problem in the future, but in the meantime, a HUGE thank you to Frans for working on temporary solutions to help keep things running for the moment, which is why you are able to read this. It's quite possible that some scripted elements of the site such as the news archive may be broken for all or part of today as a result, but the forums are still working, and responding properly once more.

Sadly, this is not correct. FEMA has the right to suspend all constitutional rights in the case of an emergency. Which I can see a necessity for in some cases, after all... (massive outbreak of a deadly virus, etc.) but is a bit scary nonetheless. Particularly in the hands of dubya.

And if they'd played DX, they'd know that!

Glad to hear that this turned out so well for you.

As for the election...isn't there a law on the books regarding this issue?

Frankly, I think this is a catch-22 for the administration. If they don't plan they are labeled boobs. They plan for 'something' and they are conspirators. No winning position that I can see.

I think spyferret picks up more stuff than noadware, but you have to register it. There used to be text pages where you could go learn what to look for and where to remove it. I wonder if there's profit to be made in third party programs that parse the log files generated from browser hijack removers and then run visual basic scripts to actually remove the things you couldn't remove if you had to register, except manually looking at the stuff identified and described in the free scan logfiles.

They should make climbing up trees with a dynamic line an olympic sport. Or just tree climbing. And you can wear gloves so you don't get blisters hanging on the rope sliding pressecs around. And Olympic drug testing is OK.

Can't wait to hear Ruiner (my fav track off that album) in 5.1...that's gonna be mind blowing.

Ruiner is my favourite NIN song. I really like the remix too.

Deep? From that shitty Tomb Raider movie? There's also Starsuckers Inc, We're In This Together and The Day The World Went Away to consider.
Yeah, but those are after the original VHS Closure came out. I was talking about movie vids that weren't included at the time due to ownership or whatever. I would assume they'll add the post-TPD videos. I sure hope so, anyway.

Hey, that's my fave too. I used ruiner as a nick for a while back in the day. I use it for compression tests too, because there's such a dynamic range of sharp sounds, if that makes any sense.

I really like the 'version' mix of it from Further Down, too. That's the ONE NIN disc I don't have, dammit... FDTS v2. Aside from the truly obscure ones like Japanese imports, I mean.

Finally! The only extra materical will probably just be to update the videos after TPD (last one on the VHS). I hope he's able to add the other ones that were missing. Burn, I think? And one other, but it escapes me at the moment.

Deep? From that shitty Tomb Raider movie? There's also Starsuckers Inc, We're In This Together and The Day The World Went Away to consider. Although the video for TDTWWA was hidden on the live dvd, and was sort of a promo, unofficial deal (I believe the guy who runs the web site assembled it from various footage - still a great video). Oh, and Into The Void, I hope that one makes it!

The Downward Spiral - 2 disc set, remixed in 5.1

This would matter to me if I had a 5.1 setup. I wonder why 2 discs, though? Maybe Further Down The Spiral is going to be included?

If I had to guess, one disc will be the remastered cd in stereo, and the other will be either dvd audio or SACD. REALLY hope it's dvd audio, as I don't have a SACD player.

Though it is a sweet ass lap-top, it was bought through Dell because the buyers had to have a contract with suppliers.

It came with WindowsXP Home….By default, shipped from Dell, it has 87, that is an 8 (eight) followed by a 7 (seven) processes running. Keep in mind a fresh install of WinXP pro has between 18-22 processes running for just the OS (and I imagine XP Home’s less).

Dude, if you can not reinstall and/or configure windows properly, Don’t get a Dell.

Enahs, I was just wondering what you did to your knee the first time?
I did nothing!

http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=49932&id=178923&boardid=1&view=threads

They scoped it twice, and I had about a year of PT. It still locks up on occasion, and I don't have near the range of motion I used to.

Yes, knee injuries tend to be quite nasty and never will hill correctly.

I was very fortunate, while it broke my knee (and foot and ankle too) it did not “shatter” anything, all the parts where still there, just separated and broke. It is really quite remarkable how well it is healing, I have been so incredibly happy and lucky with the process (the recent pain really had more worried, but “it’s all good”). When I looked down and saw what I saw, I am still amazingly surprised to this day that I am already back at ~95% and expected to make it back to 100% (though, with everyone I talked to even though “medically” it appears to be 100%, it is only 99.9% at best, but I will take it!

I was very fortunate with the emergency response team, ER surgeons and knee specialist that acted immediately the next morning, if they had not been there and that combination, at best I would be walking with a limp the rest of my life, probably worse though.

I know the names and birthdays of everyone that helped me, and they do get cards and letters on their birthdays and holidays, and I will continue for the rest of my life, as they have given me back a huge part of the rest of my life. Man... how can there still be any Bush supporters left?

I mean, it was amazing enough to see that there were enough stupid people in the States to allow him to take power.. but really!! To still be a Bush supporter after all we've seen of his ways is just plain evil, IMO. There's probably nothing stopping their type of scum from reproducing, either.

To legally delay the election, they'd have to amend the constitution,
All Bush'd have to do is declare Marshal Law and -suspend- the Constitution. Oh he'd NEVER do that, right? Yeah.

If Bush delayed the election illegally, I'd think he'd lose a whole lot of support unless the American people are a lot dumber than I think they are.

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

Packaged correctly, people will buy anything. Luckily, Bush is too much of an insipid numbskull to pull it off. He's Dan Quail + Forest Gump + Chauncey Gardner. How much would YOU wager: given a magic marker and a blank map of the world (ie stripped of all text, no latitude/longitude lines, no help from Dick C. or Donald R.) ... you think Bush could even come CLOSE to accurately drawing the borders of Iraq?

Yep, constitutionally they're not permitted to delay an election. Elections were held during the Civil War in 1864, World War II in 1944, and during undeclared war in Vietnam in 1964, 1968, and 1972.

I'm not sure of the legal remifications of suspending elections during wartime though. During a time of war, the prez can suspend civil liberties (it's been done on several occasions before). For how long and to what degree I'm not entirely certain though.

The fact that they even consider it shows - at least to me - their real contempt for democracy. Suspending elections wouldn't change a damn thing. It would simply give them time to try and spin it into a victory for themselves, because we saw the result of what happened in Spain.

To paraphrase Apocalypse Now, the bullshit piles up so fast with these guys that you need wings to stay above it. Overall, it's just really fucking tiresome and depressing.
