D-Day Demo

A demo version of D-Day is now available, offering the chance to sample the real-time strategy gameplay in Digital Reality's upcoming World War II game. The 313 MB download includes a single-player mission and a multiplayer map, here's a description: "The single-player mode gives players the opportunity to experience the now-infamous Omaha Beach landing, with archived footage and detailed descriptions of the units involved lending a sense of realism to the proceedings. The multi-player mode offers a different map, specifically engineered to thrill up to four players at once." The demo can be downloaded from one of these mirrors: 3D Gamers, ActionTrip, Boomtown (registration required), Computer Games Online, Gamer's Hell, and Worthplaying.

The first time I tried it I was slaughtered, all those units and not a clue. I almost ditched it as I didnt really like DRvAK.

But I gave it another go and on the 2nd time I made it up off the beach and that bought me time to figure some of it out, like how the different units work, using scouts and commanders, etc and I must say I enjoyed it a lot.

If you try it out dont forget to check out the "extras" with the archieved footage and interviews from the vets which is a nice addition.

5 minutes was enough for me. Having to control around 50 soldiers and tanks without really have any idea what to do aside from moving them forward didn't do much for me.

Hey, Digital Reality, if you are checking this (and I know lots of devs do), go check around to the various public gaming forums for the response that your demo has garnered.

Maybe it will make you think twice before using a piece of unethical software like StarForce on a product you actually want to sell.

Might have been chaos league that installed the starforce that I blamed on starshatter; or it might have been starshatter. Who cares.

Also Starforce is not only impossible to remove from your machine

Actually it is uninstallable. Here is a utility to get rid of it.

This is like the second game I've seen in the last month with copy protection, the other being Chaos League MP demo, which I installed and then frantically uninstalled when it told me that it had installed some third party copyprotection rubbish.

Make noise about this to your local publishers. I don't know what sort of psycho would authorise the release of a demo with copy protection, but they need to be made aware that it isn't a good idea.

Also Starforce is not only impossible to remove from your machine, it causes a lot of nasty side-effects from intermittent reboots to total data corruption.

The game companies don't respect their customer enough to pay an additional 1/100 of a cent to starforce so that the protection is removed when you uninstall the game.

I was really keen to check out this game, both because I (still) dig WW2 games, but also because I wanted to check out the archived footage that was included.

Needless to say, after seeing that they've put copy protection on a freely distributable demo (that means I have to reboot after installing, are you kidding?!?), I've lost all interest.

Of course, what I really want is Close Combat 6.

I liked Panzer but for the fact its CDV and tanks battle for 2mins..that been fixed? Hitting tanks in rear had no real effect.

Maybe CDV will let the devs patch the game for once...

or release a standalone expansion like always with fixes.

@Quiboid: Yup, that's the new one. Seems the English version has come out early. You can also download it from 3D Gamers, Filefront and Worthplaying as well.

Is this from the same people as DRvsAK? It certainly seems the same - the gameplay is similarly deep, the interface is clean and familar and they're both so god damn hollow. I dunno why, but this just feels so lifeless and uninvolving. The voice acting is also as bad - one of the pain shouts sounds almost sarcastic.

I must check out Codename Panzers. Of course, what I really want is Close Combat 6.

EDIT: Is this the new Codename Panzers demo?

I played through it and finished it. It was okay, but not quite enjoyable enough to make me want to buy it. I still prefer Codename: Panzers over this. I guess it's lucky for me there's a new Panzers demo tomorrow....and another beach landing level at that.

Played the demo(didnt have to restart) Unless its because I already have starforce from SHOWW2 installed.

Anyway its okay. I didnt like controlling all those soldiers! Someone that does may enjoy the heck out of it. I like Soldiers Heros of World War 2 better. With an editor I think it could be alot better then this. The explosions are semi fake.

Sometimes soldiers dont like to move to certain places. Its worth a try.

Only 1 lvl but pretty big.

EDIT: OK, it's Digital Reality and being published in some places by Digital Jesters. My bad.

Man, I wish my 2Mbit line had been activited before this came out. Damn BT and their out of date records.

Still downloading it here. That said, this is from the same team who did "Desert Rats Vs Afrika Corps" (and I believe it's the same engine). So if you've played that title (or just the demo), you should probably have a fair idea of what to expect in this one.
