Out of the Blue

Today's the day Spider-Man 2 launches in theaters here in the U.S. When the first Spider-Man came out I recall vowing to break my trend of not getting out to the movies to see it on its first run, but failed to make good on that plan. Since then I have worked out the process properly (like attending a movie is so complicated), so I'm much more confident that I'll be able to make it this time. As a long-time fan of the wall-crawler, I thought they did a decent job of bringing Spidey to life in the first-one. I found the CG Spidey a bit too artificial (at least on the small screen), and hope this will be better in the new one (or at least play better on the big screen), but I was impressed with how true to the spirit of the original much of it is (though if I were making the movie, I would have done the whole Gwen Stacey story to its painful conclusion -- shows how old school I am). Anyway, with very positive reviews coming in for the sequel, I'll gladly throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.

Well, I watched Spidey 2 last night. And although it was a good movie, I couldn't help but use the words "a whole lot of cheese" to describe it. Too many corny scenes. I know they were trying to comic bookish but it wound up being very cheesy in many parts... some you could laugh off and say I can't believe this is so cheesy. Others you just hung your head in shame and say I can't believe this is so cheesy... a whole lot of cheese.

Er, that's not exactly a glowing endorsement. That's about like saying "It was better than Highlander 2, 3, and 4". Well yeah... that's because they sucked.

I liked Bourne Identity... while I agree with your point (Enahs) that the editing slipped into the lazy from time to time, I thought it was different enough to be worth my £4.50. I thought the opening was great, a great car chase, and instilled the right kind of paranoia - not people sneaking bugs into my fountain pen. Although the audience knew from the start that he would be some sort of commando / agent / hot shit fighter, I thought he was fairly convincing as the one person in the film that doesn't know. I'm a Matt Damon fan, I'm yet to see him in something I haven't liked (quick check of imdb just to make sure... I don't think he can be blamed for The Legend of Bagger Vance :)) and I am looking forward to Ocean's 12, if only for the chance to see that cast.
Apparently it's from one of three books, so presumably there's another one on the way after Bourne Supremacy. The only thing I have a concern about it the unfortunate initials - BS.

The first Bourne movie pissed me off because they kept speeding up action in editing (by huge obvious amounts) so Matt could do all cool looking stuff. I just wish they got a different chorographer that had time to work with Matt and could learn what he can do and be trained to do with the time allotted, so they would not have to use so many damn editing tricks and so much of the speeding up crap, or just do a better job of covering it up in editing…either way.

The Bourne Supremacy looks okay but I think I'll pass. The first one was sorta cool and sorta sucky at the same time. Franka Potente made it all right though

I loved the first Bourne movie. I found the idea of waking up not knowing who you are and then slowly realizing that you're one of the baddest MF'ers on earth pretty cool.

The Spiderman movie is getting nearly unprecedented excellent reviews. As of this afternoon it had a 96% on RottenTomatoes, which is pretty amazing for a summer blockbuster and big budget release. I guess I'll have to go see it. I was one of the ten people who thought the first one was overrated but I think this one looks quite a bit better than the previous.

A few other movies have piqued my interest. One is Anchorman, which looks absolutely hilarious. Will Ferrell is the man and the trailers are awesome. The other good looking one is remake of the Manchurian Candidate. I think it looks excellent. I haven't seen the original so I can't comment but this one looks quite suspenseful. Nice cast too. Suprising, it's gotten zero publicity as of yet.

Others that could be good : The Village, Collateral

Are we talking about that Big Red Dog Clifford? Or another Clifford I am not aware of?

I hear they are remaking Old Yeller, but in the end the ASPCA stops them from putting down the dog. (I just made this up btw)

Well I plan on cooking them at 275F so if it still burns at that low a temp oh well.

The pan should be keeping the direct heat from “attacking forth” the meat, so it should not burn! But say if you tried a rub on a steak where you cooked over the fire, it would not turn out too good (because most rubs have brown sugar, or some type sugar, if it is just a little salt and pepper, that aint no rub!) but sugar does not burn as easily when it is not direct heat.

I won't go crazy and buy a smoker to go along with my grill.

How many times on this board do I gotta tell people to be a mans man? You better buy, better yet build you a 500 pound steel and brick BBQ pit! “Man up”

Gets in soutern’ good ole’ boy voice :

Dem’ Baby Back Ribs are my favorite pork, but aint nutin’ gonna beat good ole rubbed and smoked beef brisket, cept’ Baby Backs and Beef Brisket together. Git R’ Dun

No manner of lightning arrestors/supressors will save you from a direct hit.

I had a tin foil hat on when I was hit by lightening, it seemed to work fine, no troubles here at all, nope none.

Lot's to reply to here:

also you can not typically use a dry rub when grilling, even slowly because it would burn the rub (which is what really makes the smoked ribs mmm mmm good) but you can and should use a dry rub when smoking! IMHO

Well I plan on cooking them at 275F so if it still burns at that low a temp oh well. I won't go crazy and buy a smoker to go along with my grill. My Weber hasn't let me down on the grilling side. Everything I've tried grilling with it has been close to perfect. Barbecue may be out of it's reach but I won't know until I try. Right now it's a $60 experiment as I found the smoker attachment on clearance.

Just FYI so you can impress your co-workers with knowledge next time it happens.

I'm well aware of the Degauss thing. I already suprised them by quickly clearing the rainbow.

And about your routers and answering machine; It was simply all the wiring focusing the Electro Magnetic Pulse from the lighting strike into the equipment…schweet huh? Happened to me before....sucks!

Lightning is funny stuff. I've seen instances where it strikes a water tank and blows out motors, level controls, all manner of stuff and one little teeny component somehow dodges the bullet. No manner of lightning arrestors/supressors will save you from a direct hit.

I saw your comments on the WoW beta on your blog. There is no NDA in place. Beta testers can comment on the game all they like. So how is it?

Hey Bronco, from Halys comments I went to see what you said.

I see a thing where you talk about smoking, and got a smoker pan/attachment for you grill, and link which is to your grill? While they might sell you stuff to smoke, and it might make smoke, it will not really be useful if you are using the propane version.
People like propane because not only is it efficient, but the only thing that it produces when it burns is carbon dioxide and water vapor. However, the water-vapor greatly reduces the amount of smoke that can get into the meat. Yes smoke will get into the meat, but no-where near as much as if you went and bought a cheap charcoal smoker, like so:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?cat=4089&dept=5428&product_id=1659456&path=0%3A5428%3A4089%3A49943

Though, these kind:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?cat=4089&dept=5428&product_id=1972388&path=0%3A5428%3A4089%3A49943
I have always found to work better.
Those where just the first cheap’o results walmart turned up, I am not recommending those in particular.

Though, with ribs since they smoke so fast (what you mentioned for this weekend), you are not really going to be getting much smoke flavor in it anyway, mostly it affects the texture by smoking the ribs (which I think is a good texture!), also you can not typically use a dry rub when grilling, even slowly because it would burn the rub (which is what really makes the smoked ribs mmm mmm good) but you can and should use a dry rub when smoking! IMHO

But, if say you where to slow cook a beef brisket, while it will cook it you would not get no where near as much smoke and smoke flavor in it as if you used one not based on propane. And yes, if you tried some side by side, one from propane and one from charcoal or electric (the heat is just to make the wood chips smoke), you would be able to tell the difference “for sure”.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Edit
Also from your blog:
All of the computers were fine despite the monitors having a very strange rainbow discoloration to them

Are you talking about the Google Toolbar plugin, or just the google search bar built in-to Firefox?
If it is the built in one, just go to View/Toolbar/Customize and drag it from that screen over to the tool bar.
