Far Cry Patch Plans

The Far Cry Website now offers news that the next patch for Crytek's first-person shooter is in the final stages of localization and testing, offering word on where things stand: "Patch 1.2 is in its final stage of production: a nasty scoreboard bug and a CDkey security issue remain to be fixed, but otherwise a huge list of improvement/fixes have been implemented and tested successfully." Thanks Frans.

And the game is still in the top 10.

So settle down.
It is a great game for the audience it was intended for. I have not finished the game and find it very challenging. I don't play it as a Multiplayer, because there are other games that do a great job. It is a great game for a single player experience. The story line is great, the graphics are great, the difficulty is perfect.

Agreed. If I only have 15 or 20 minutes to play, and don't hit a checkpoint, WTF am I supposed to do?

Play Tetris?

I don't think this is a game meant to be played in short bursts. Save points are meant to increase tension in the game. That being said I never had a session where I didn't get to a save point within at most 10 minutes. There were some places where I had difficulty getting to the next save point, but half the fun for me was trying different tactics until I could reach it.

I would agree that the game isn't perfect and may not deserve all the "editors choice" awards it received, but it definitely is one of the most polished and entertaining FPS games in a long time.

I hate the mouse input and lack of options in this game!

All that aside, it saves things at specific, pre-determined checkpoints. When you just retry or continue from the start screen, it takes you back to the latest approved checkpoint.

Sure, you can quicksave wherever you want, but it only saves your progress to the latest checkpoint. Bizarely, not all level starts count as checkpoints. Sometimes, I can start a new level, manually save there, and then have the computer load me up at the last "official" checkpoint...back in the last level.

The game is almost cool, but not quite. The stupid mouse options drive me crazy - when I am using a MX 510, do not limit my input.

Thinking the flow could use some refining,
Ray

Ray (having nothing new to play)

It's kinda weird...with all the games released this year I find there isnt much to play either. Nothing that sucks me in and makes me want to play. I've been, ack, reading alot in the last 3 weeks instead.

However, the gaming I have done was of Midnight Club 2, which I reinstalled about a month ago, such a really good racing game. Also playing Red Orchestra, and messing around with UEFA Euro 2004, but that wont last long I dont think since Im not a big football (soccer) fan.

Going to pick up Soldiers tomorrow, since I had alot of fun playing the demo, and I normally don't like those types of games.

XIII --

Now there's a game with a wacky system for dealing with saves.. I've spent tons of time tinkering with it, and sometimes it even loads the point in the game that I'm interested in, but I still really don't think I know how it works..

I think Far Cry is an incredibly fun, great game that really wowed me and beat a lot of the "big" developers to market.

Now, would I call it a great game? Absolutely not;

It mainly messed up AI aggressiveness, thou I think that was addressed in the first patch after about 1 or 2 months.

I enjoyed many things about the game, thou its the manipultive attiude of the devs/publisher, dont know which or both they mostly abandened the PC gamers.
Its remarkable that a dev could design a game without quicksave or save anytime, with the current standard of published bugs, for the PC this is a joke right

And to all the guys whining about gamers that expect standard PC feature on our PC games we buy, HOW DARE WE.
And of course they make the obligatory comments to prove what men they are cause they did this and they did that all the while with cock in there mouths, how impressive o_0

Edited
I really enjoyed the ablity to attack with differnt paths and have very different AI responses. Outdoor maps were great at this, thou the indoor maps were good too.

No, it is understandable. I think Far Cry is an incredibly fun, good game that really wowed me and beat a lot of the "big" developers to market.

Now, would I call it a great game? Absolutely not; it missed that magical something-ness, the story could have been better, you could argue another name for this could have been "Juarrasic Park: Monkey Mutants," the character was a bit generic, your teammates were a real liability at times, that last level was atrociously design and terribly anticlimactic, multi-player is missing anything truly special, etc.

Still, I just had a lot of fun doing whatever I wanted. Similar to Thief, I had a thing about taking everybody out. I would literally come at tings from one end of a level and then immediately backtrack to the entire opposite end of a level and clear out that route, too. Also, although not profound, I hold the game as a (relatively) good example of creating a world with rules rather than levels full of tired scripts. Some of the most fun or magical moments were ones that just happened from me/NPCs interacting with the world rather than being pre-set scripts.

It is damn good, but not quite great. However, I do personally feel that it has really set a standard for the things I listed before. The game looks absolutely fabulous on my P225fb and it gives me a huge world to play in with equally high performance. Obviously, I keep on playing games, but I cringe when I play another corridor-style game that looks worse, has less options, and runs worse.

Edit: I cannot stress the Quake/Ghost Recon thing enough. If I played the entire game as an action game, it would drive me crazy. Alternately, if I tried to sneak my way through the whole game, I would easily give up. There are a few action bits, but akin to Thief, I enjoyed sneaking from bush to bush or hiding spot to hiding spot and taking out the NPCs one by one... Like other games I enjoy, I realize it can be an acquired taste.

Switching between Arcanum, XII, and 1337 Force 2 at the moment,
Ray (having nothing new to play)

P.S. Indiv is a big meanie!

Every once and while, it would have problems with the quick-load feature, but quick-loading right after this would fix any problems I had.

Enjoying Far Cry more and more as I play subsequent games,

Also, realize the game was not about pure, straight-out action; it was more a mix of Quake and Ghost Recon. Very fun game - one of the most fun I have ever played - and it almost came out of the blue to beat both Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 to market.

Yes but it lacked a certain intangible that I can't explain. I suppose the best way to describe it would be a lack of soul. I can't find any real reason to fault the game, it's polished if slightly generic, but I still can't find any motivation to finish it. I feel like an idiot decrying a game without any real justification besides "I didn't like it that much", all the elements of incredible gaming are there it just doesn't come together for me. For example I can't play Far Cry for more than a half hour or so at a time, I just get bored. With some games that'll happen but eventually I'll get into them and start having marathon play sessions, that simply hasn't happened with Far Cry. Half-Life on the other hand still has that grab-you-by-the-balls-and-force-you-to-play quality even after five and a half years, I recently replayed it over the course of about three sessions. Since school has ended I've had a lot more time for games and my priority has been to finish Far Cry but I just can't do it, the game is just missing something. In all honesty I had more fun with Far Cry multiplayer than the acclaimed singleplayer.

I loved Farcry, one of the only recent fps that have taken me a long time to finish.

It didn't have any annoying jumping puzzles so didn't need quick save.

Also with out quick save it showed just how many ways you could get past a level.

argh. i never had no probz with the "cheating" quick saving. so i can fully understand your frustration becuz if it didn't work i'd prolly have done the same. on a different note, unrelated to the game save situation, lots of people are saying they didn't like farcry other than the graphics. me, i loved it! was fully engrossed from beginning to end

as said before, saving via console commands commonly screws up scripting, the radar, and various other aspects of the game.

it would remove my HUD for some reason. i only used it once when I played for the second time on the higher difficulty because I had an emergency and had to leave the game for a few minutes. I guess I'm one of the few who likes the tension that checkpoints give to the gameplay.

Cant believe the whiners still going on about the checkpoint saves. Call of Duty had the same type of checkpoint saves...dont hear you newbs bitching about that? Is it really because they also have Quicksaves? I dont think so. Call of Duty was extremely easy, was extremly linear and basically played on rails.

I played the entire FarCry game without a single problem with the auto saves. I liked them alot because it meant focusing on the game, rather than using Quicksave every 2min. There was a day when games actually required you to restart a level when you fucked up. Stop crying like newbie whiners and play the game.

Boo hoo, no quicksave, Im gonna uninstall. Grow the fuck up and get some balls pussies.
