Stealth-type game? Jun 28, 2004, 00:49

Someone above mentioned the Thief games...assuming someone is actually backing the developer with a fair budget, they could probably pull off a decent sneaking-type game. You could be an early member of the church, sneaking around Roman cities at night and relaying information, or even helping to move copies of different books of the Bible. And, instead of offensive weapons, you'd be given a broader variety of traps and disabling tools. Moral dilemmas could also come in; you could rob someone for your own gain, but it may harm another character later on in the story. It'd have to be well pulled off, but with solid funding and a team that's actually committed to making a triple-A title, it could happen.

But then, a world leader 'could' admit they're wrong. Doesn't mean it's ever going to happen.

The difficult thing for any developer or publisher would be to overcome the stigma that Christian games have, to be honest, earned. It'd take a rather good game to make people realize that they're not trash, but very few publishers want to take a risk like that, and thus you're stuck in an endless cycle.

Well, I have been saying this for years, but they need to make a game after sampson. That dude killed some odd thousand people with the Jaw-bone of an ass. All I can say is that it's gonna be a cool game if the ultimate power-up is the jaw-bone of the ass. "Cool, I got the jaw-bone of the ass power up! Time to rip up those Philistines!"

A more plausible scenario would be North Korea and/or China attacking Japan. Bad blood there, going back to WW2, and its not like Japan could easily defend itself against either of those. But a war between China and North Korea, the closest of allies and the only two Communist powers (well, real powers) left in the world? I don't think so.

But then again, keep in mind the IS Tom Clancy wer're talking about. America has no real enemies, not in the form of nations in any case, so he has to imagine these far out scenarios to give himself a big ol' "defenders of freedom" chubby.

A game that is of high quality doesn't automatically guarantee high sales (or 'oodles of money' as you put it). Titles like "No-One Lives Forever" and "Clive Barker's Undying", for example, were quality games that received great reviews. But both notably underperformed sales-wise. I imagine that these Christian games will be relegated to being nothing more than 'niche products' for a very small portion of gamers.

if they can make a game that is high enough in quality to get put on walmarts shelves it will make the publisher oodles of money. the grandparents will buy these titles for the kids in a heartbeat if they are value priced. have you ever noticed the book section of walmarts? especially in the south they are dominated by books about christianity and especially revelation. its game quality may be a joke to us but when grandma buys it and mom says you can't return it your stuck. even one of those crappy walmart deerhunting titles sounds good to ya know instead of this and if those hunting titles can get a floor display anything halfway presentable in a christian theme will.

you are all wrong!

north korea has the biggest standing military on earth..not china

china could probably bolster there numbers greatly if a massive war took place though

and its also false about the chinese not being a modern military and poorly trained..they have quite modern weaponry

north korea is using 50s 60s tech but that doesnt make a bad military...a technological edge wont alone win a war
the ak-47 is a much better weapon than most firearms

the ghost recon 2 plot is weak, IMHO NK wouldn't attack it's only ally

Yeah, but could you imagine what their version of Doom would look like? No blood and guts, no death-spewing weapons, and...well....no fun. You'd probably be forced to 'run the gauntlet' through each level, forgiving the sins of every demon who attacked you...

Judging by the blurbs on Digital Praise's website, "pure kiddy games" is exactly what they're intending to put out. Or at least extremely sanitised titles full of Bible quotes and preaching. To quote their own words:

"We seek to glorify God through our software titles and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ while entertaining, enlightening, and encouraging faith."

Bleah.

I'm rabidly anti-christian but I'll be interested to see what, if anything, these guys can put out, as long as we're not talking about purely kiddy games with bible verse puzzles or anything like that. Can they do a FPS? I played the demo of that one that came out a few years ago. You "convert" the Roman soldier monsters rather than kill them. It was pretty horrible, but mainly because the tech and art were so bad.

Can you make an adult FPS that doesn't offend evangelical Christians? And have it still be fun? I think maybe they could if they were clever. A lot of people love to play Thief and Deus Ex without violence or killing. Anyway, I'm always interested in people who try to expand the genre, just so long as what they make is actually fun.

Yeah, I did a little research into it. China's military is massive, but poorly trained. They're called the world largest military museum. So I can see where the scenario can come about.
