N.A. Ships Ahoy - TrackMania

Enlight sends word that TrackMania, the construction/racing game hybrid that's already had a successful European launch, is now set to race into stores in North America as well. Here's the deal:
PARKVILLE, Md. (June 24, 2004) — Enlight, a leading entertainment software developer and publisher, announced today that it has shipped its highly anticipated hybrid racing game, TrackMania, to retail stores across North America. Reviewers across Europe have praised TrackMania, while North American gamers have awaited the arrival of this fun, strategic racing game.

In a recent article, GameSpy praised the new title saying "…it's impressive that TrackMania offers something fresh: it's not merely a racing game, but also a racing track construction set." "Whoever you are, whatever your background, no matter how old you are, TrackMania is bound to appeal," wrote PC Gameworld in a recent preview. "It presents an innocent and undiluted slice of pure fun, and that makes a refreshing change from much of the convoluted garbage that litters the shop shelves. We need more games like this!"

The North American version of Trackmania contains enhanced Internet play, a unique avatar system, a new survival mode, ghost competition cars and 60 new building blocks such as tunnels, land transitions, signs and turbos. TrackMania has been coined as a highly addictive adventure with a fast-paced multiplayer Mecca, which allows for crazy tracks and a variety of fascinating competitive modes. Another key to TrackMania's appeal is that its network game is built to allow players of all skills to participate, from the casual gamer with a low-speed connection to the hard-core gamer with bandwidth galore!

"With a loyal following across Europe, we expect TrackMania to do very well in North America," said Paul Lombardi, chief executive officer of Enlight Interactive, the U.S. publishing operation of Enlight. "We are enormously pleased with TrackMania's success and believe gamers in the United States and Canada will thoroughly enjoy this fun and addictive racing game."

Developed by Nadeo and published in the United States and Canada by Enlight Interactive Inc., TrackMania will be available on Windows PC, priced at $29.99 (U.S.). For additional information please visit http://www.enlight.com/trackmania.

Ironically, I just got my European version in the mail yesterday! I can't speak highly enough about this game - it's got sleeper written all over it. If you remember the old pc game Stunt Driver (by Spectrum Holobyte) you'll LOVE this game.

Grab the demo NOW!

Why so long to ship in US? Jun 24, 2004, 12:42

Why has this game taken so long to be shipped to the US i dont know...

Absolutly great game! So simple but very addictive and so fun multiplayer.

Is bizarre though been out in the UK now must be 6 months, even seen copies for £7.99 as it didn't sell well as it had no advertising and if you look at the screenshots it looks like a dodgy budget title.

Yes. TM supports most wheels and pads. Some racers use a wheel/pad and are extremely fast.

Does it still have that EVIL starcrap anti-copying system that messes up one's computer and stays resident even after you uninstall.

I think I'm going to just start posting this warning every time this kid tries another pathetic bid for attention here. I made the mistake of trying to respond to him directly, now I see others making the same mistake. So, sorry if anyone has read this before but it's for a good cause! (Feel free to cut and paste it yourselves if you want - just click on Bosco's name to see his last few moronic posts, and respond with the warning if you want to. Maybe we can shut off all attention for this guy ...)

The Warning:

"Bosco" is one of those total losers who gets off on the attention he recieves by acting like an asshole...You should never respond to him by name, because that's ALL he wants: someone to notice him. Someone to pay attention to him. Pathetic but true. He's just a poor, miserable little kid with his dick in his hand, looking for attention, ANY attention.
So don't give it to him. Don't respond to him directly. Talk about him in the third person if you must, but don't go beyond that. I wish there was some quick way we could flag this asshole so no one would make the mistake of talking to him - make his name show up in red or something? That way if he ever gives up using the "Bosco" name and shows up again with a different name, we could just flag him again and go back to ignoring his pathetic, loser ass.

okay, so I saw this, and immediately went to EBgames to see if they would be one of the store chains carrying it. Yes, they will be....early next month.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but when a company announces that they're "shipping", that usually means it's been in production and they're sending out truckloads of the product, which can't possibly take more than a day or two to reach their destination.

It usually doesn't mean July 5th.

Not that it's a particularly long wait, really, but if indeedy a store around here has a copy today, this being about the last day I'll have to play ANYTHING for about 2 weeks (moving), I'd REALLY like to know.

and that's why every EB in town will be getting a call from me today.

no, "shipping" means the very second after the gold master is created. From the publishers point of view, everything that happens after that moment falls under the "shipping" umbrella.

Uhhm no it does not. "Going Gold" or Mastering is the point from where the developer sends off the master discs for duplication. Shipping is once duplication and packaging is completed and the product is being, oddly enough, "shipped" out to distributers. In cases like EB, they are their own distributer.

You know, I would have pointed you at ebworld.com, but I see they've now changed their ship date, also...something must have happened, as it was earlier.

oh...sorry, I just realized that my post didn't QUITE clarify. I went to EBGames.com (same as EBworld.com) to find that date. I didn't leave the house to find this out. I drove up to EB for RSC2 (not even worth the time) on release day, just for them to tell me that no, it didn't show up and is going to be there the next day. now I call to check if the shit's in or not.
