..apparently it has a few more steps to go thru..

Currently the Senate and the House each have their own version of the bill. IIRC, the House version calls for lower fines. Both bills detail fines for individual broadcasters themselves as well as the stations they work for. This is a significant break from past regulations.
The two branches will get together and hammer out a compromise bill and present it to Bush for his signature. I could be wrong but even if he doesn't sign it (and I'm sure he will), it would become law after a certain number of days anyway.

What really rubs me are the vote counts. 95-1 in favor in the senate. That's a whole lot of Dems as well as Repubs. The killer is that if you vote against it future contenders for your seat will be able to point at your record and say 'You voted against more funding for our troops!'

This is really a total shaft move.

As for the long term impact of this...

This makes me wonder how they will deal with NFL games. Virtually every time they do a replay that features 'Sounds from the Sidelines' you can hear players cursing up a storm. I guess those are history.

As a parent, the TV is off for the majority of the time that my kids are awake. Forget about prime time television. Amazing that while I easily control what my kids see and hear the government still needs to take care of this for me.
