A couple of recent doings have stirred the pot a bit regarding the release date
for DOOM 3, id Software's eagerly anticipated upcoming shooter remake.
DOOM 3 Release Date Set
on IGN points out that
Gamestop
and EBgames each are
listing August 3 as the "official" just-announced release date for the game, for
which the release date had been "when it's done" until it was recently announced
that it would be done this summer (story). On a related note, a
few folks have pointed out that the British
Board of Film Classification has a
DOOM III Listing (thanks for small "b" blue for being the first) with a
rating for the game, a seeming indication that they've already been able to
review all its content, which some are taking as another indication of the
game's relative imminence.
After playing the awesome Riddick for XBOX Doom3 better shit diamonds when it comes out.

Ive played the Beta and Im sorry to say I wasnt that impressed... nobody would be very impressed with playing Doom2 again - and thats basically what you have, with much better graphics.... uh, big fuckin deal
id is going the way of "serious sam" on this one... unfortunately the multiplayer is pretty much crap too

Okay, you don't know what you're talking about.
There was never a DOOM 3 beta, there was only a leaked Alpha 2 years ago. A lot of development happens in 2 years.
The game is nothing like Serious Sam. The engine is too resource intensive to have that many monsters on the screen at once.

This thing was meant to have the editor built into the engine, wasn't it, so it comes with the game? I just hope it's easier to use than the damn Quake versions, the UT editor is a piece of cake compared to them....

...and that was not even an Alpha of DOOM 3. That was only a very early DOOM 3 engine technology demonstration for the E3.

And I just upgraded my PC to a 3.0 Ghz, ASUS MoBo, 2 Gb RAM, ATI 9800 Pro (not part of the upgrade, old system). All for under $700

You sir are an idiot.. I love Doom2 and would play it again anytime, heck nothing was impressive as the Quake1/2 platform for FPS.

I still like doom/2. I fired it up a couple of months ago with one of those kits that adds openGL and jump support (I think it was Z-doom or something like that). Brought back a lot of old memories =) Anyone ever play the H2H MUD levels?
Q1 got me into gaming online versus real human opponents and of course TF. Combing the hours I spent playing Q1/2 online; well suffice to say these guys have more than provided me with my money's worth over the years.

I'm always going to be a little skeptical in regards to release dates for big name titles.
I do realize that it was publically stated that Doom 3 would be out this summer but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Yes a date!! As it's on IGN I'm presuming this is not going to change but it would be nice to hear a confirmation from Id.
I don't think the people that decided to judge Doom3 on the leaked alpha know fa about Id, ever since the fondly remembered qtest it's been obvious that anything Id release will push your pc to the limit, and if your machine doesn't cut it then it's going to have a slight heart attack.
Shit.. people who know what's going on know I don't need to continue but anyone thinking this game is going to suck because of what they have already seen need a good slap.

spacecapt go play in traffic. You are so wrong. I played the E3 Alpha (not beta! how can a fucking tech demo be beta!) and it was incredible. It wasn't meant to be played by the public. It was strictly a tech demo to show off the capabilities of the engine. I played the multiplayer at quakecon and it rocks. STFU you don't know what you are talking about.
Had a bash of doom with one of the OpenGL mods for it a few months go, great fun. Only thing annoying was lack of up/down, the slightly weird physics and graphics being a bit "odd" (mostly the new 3D models).
Doom 3 fucking sucks and looks like shit.
