Out of the Blue

Although still a favorite, over the past couple of years Dr Pepper has slipped to third on the list of preferred soft drinks at the Blue Tower, behind perennial contender Mountain Dew and the impressive newcomer, Vanilla Coke (I prefer BAWLS to all of them, but it's easier to pan for gold than actually find this stuff in stores). Being number three on this list generally may as well be #100, since I rarely go down the list past #1 (the Vanilla Coke) in the supermarket. Recently, however, it's been heavy on the DP here, as they are running one of those talking cans promotions offering the chance to win a Dodge Viper... MrsBlue is taking great amusement at this process, as every can I open disappoints me with soda, rather than the announcement of my new sports car.

I don't recall too much about aspartame except that it's a very nasty cancer causing agent. From what I o recall reading about it, it was enough to make me avoid it like the plague to this day.

Maybe it's changed, but if I'm going to destroy my body I'll stick to booze and smokes.

VNV and Assemblage 23 are great.

Can I also recommend SITD, The Azoic, Clear Vision, Conjure One, Ivory Frequency, Lights of Euphoria, Neurotic Fish, Plastic, Pride and Fall, Project Pitchfork, Seabound, Steril, Sulphur, Velvet Acid Christ and Wolfsheim.
All bands prone to occasional dancefloor greatness.

Oh, and IrnBru is a great drink

aspartame used to be classified as a biological warfare agent.. its neurotoxicity has been proven time and again, in many different studies throughout the years...

Not having really looked in to it, I can not comment much. Other then it is obvious it is not killing/causing harm to people instantly or at tremendous rate, if at all (and it is trivial if it is for the point I am making). But plain ole sugar is the same way.
Sugar is just as dangerous (Actually more dangerous from what I read of that page you linked, which is just experts from books on the complete subject) in the quantities people use it, and if you replace it with something else, anything it is dangerous. Simply put, it is a substance that is greatly abused but is not all that bad for you in controlled quantities.

I gotta say Sierra Mist is one of my favorite sodas.. It's the most syrupy drink ever, but is incredibly addicting.

Though, nothing beats regular Pepsi.

I've been playing a lot of Freespace lately and have only now realized that one of my favorite, uniquely PC genres (space-combat) is dead. Hopefully Jump to Lightspeed can resurrect the genre but I have my doubts.

if you like Dr. Pepper, try Diet Dr. Pepper sometime -- it's one of the only diet drinks that tastes virtually identical to the regular one.

No it does not. A DP made with High Fructose Corn Syrup taste quite different from one made with Aspertame. The ones I drink make from cane sugar taste only slighly different from the HFCS sodas.

I hope the Dr. Pepper company considered making Diet Dr. Pepper out of Splenda. I'd be in Heaven.

Yeah, well, a junkie, is a junkie. To tell the truth I drink as much for the caffeine as for the taste -- never really liked coffee, smells good. However, a good iced mocha though.... mmmmmm. Enough chocolate to cover the coffee's bitterness.

Homer: What do you have to drink?

Vendor: Mountain Dew or crab juice.

Homer: Ewwwww! Gimme' the crab juice.

I was a die hard Dew drinker back in the day... but I needed to stop because my weight was becoming an issue (close to my max. weight, I was in the USAF). So, I needed to switch to a diet drink. I tried them all. They all sucked. The local quick mart had fountain drinks, and they had about 25 different sodas. I decided to try 25% diet Dew, 75% regular Dew. That I could deal with. Couple of weeks later I went to 50/50, then 2 or 3 weeks after that, 75/25. Been doing the Dew with Diet Dew ever since (9 years). I can still drink a regular dew but I like the diet better now. Also, drinking regular pepsi or coke is fine but I still can't stand the diet versions. I on a good day (bad day?) I probably drink a 12 pack -- on the slower days maybe as few as 5 or 6.

I drink water. if i eat junk (mmmm taco bell), then ill have diet pepsi/coke.

The only time i drink proper coke is when its mixed with vodka, and im beyond remembering to ask for diet coke with the vodka...

On a side note. why is it so damn hard to make a simple text scroll box that reads from a file in flash? its got to be one of the main things everyone asks about and its still not simple, 7+ versions in.

It had a smiliar level of sweetness, just different tasting. The notes of the cola flavor were slightly different, and there was the aftertaste. However, it was closer than I would have expected.

YMMV.

It was much better than Diet Coke, which is *ahem* an acquired taste.

Would you say it taste as if one can of regular coke was mixed with one can of water?
Or was it actually the same sweetness, just a different tasting sweetness?
