Out of the Blue

Sure enough, temperatures hit about a million degrees around here yesterday. Among other things, I am seriously considering checking out Gila Window Films, a product to address this recommended by Enahs (there are just a few small attic-type windows up here, but any little bit helps). Even then the AC up here will clearly remain a few BTUs shy of what's required... at one point yesterday I started seeing mirages.

That's pretty cool, I did it and I'm:
Economic Left/Right: -4.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.38
which, according to other graphs, is somewhere in between Nelson Mandela and The Dalai Lama.

The decision in the upcoming Canadian Federal Election is no better than you're faced with down there. People are so mad at the ruling Liberal party that they just want to vote against them. But the other main contender is the Conservative Party, which isn't anything like choosing the lesser of two evils by any stretch... more like a different, but just as evil, evil.

Plus, you guys get until November to decide... our election is at the end of this month, and it was only called a month ago!

Go here and take this test:

http://www.politicalcompass.org/

Then vote for the independant candidate that most closely meets your beliefs.

I dislike Bush and would vote for anyone else for presidency to get him out of office, the problem is that I dislike Kerry to.

I'm halfway with you. I'm more than a little disappointed with Bush. For many of the obvious reasons and some not so obvious. OTOH voting for Kerry certainly feels like voting for the same coin, just the other side.

Think about it:

Federal Gov't vs. States rights - Lincoln in office.

Depression & WWII - FDR.

Current world affairs - Kerry or Bush? Oh boy.

Grab your ankles boys, this one's gonna hurt.

pretty sure they still are, but gonna go out and rip up part of it to take a look

DON'T do that!

The last thing you want to do is rip open something that may be fine. Look at the caulk around the joint where the frame of the skylight meets the roof. Is it cracked? Is it dried out? The best thing to do may be running another bead of caulk around it. If you break the original seal and it starts leaking I'll feel pretty bad.

Is there any way you can gain access to the space between the ceiling and roof line? Don't mess with the integrity of your roof unless you have to.

soudns to me like you guys need a 3rd party. like the lib dems in the UK (Not that they actually do anything, but it keeps those that dont want labour or conservatives in happy)

Not that that solves your moral quarndry, so my suggestion is that we all start up a Blue party! we must have at least one person in each state, if everyone chips in a few dollers we could create a new party, get a bunch into the senate and have Blue as president! (And if we stay hush hush about it, he wont know until the secret service guys ask him to come to the white house)

The current US population is 291,500,000. Out of this I'm guessing there are at least 20 billion people that are of age to run for president and are not yet to physically ill for the job. Now out of 20 billion people how come we're left with just two arseholes for the choice of president? Man, I hate the party system.

Well since the number you said is 291+ million, I find it quite hard to believe 20 billion are eligible, maybe 20 million by your figures!

More importantly, they have to be rich or willing to completely sell them selves out like a cheap hooker to get into a position of power like that. Anyone who really believes anyone in real political power is not a total whore, democrat or republican, as Bugs Bunny would say:
“What a maroon!”

Sorry for the political talk, but these are the only message boards I browse on the web. So, I was sitting here wondering if anyone else is having the same dilemma I was...

I dislike Bush and would vote for anyone else for presidency to get him out of office, the problem is that I dislike Kerry to. If I vote for an independant then I risk Bush staying in office which I definitely don't want, but if I vote Kerry I'm voting for someone who really hasn't shown me any great "Presidential" qualities.

The current US population is 291,500,000. Out of this I'm guessing there are at least 20 billion people that are of age to run for president and are not yet to physically ill for the job. Now out of 20 billion people how come we're left with just two arseholes for the choice of president? Man, I hate the party system.

Reminds me of an Adam Sandler skit called "Joining the Cult"...

[Sandler:] "Well, just, we'll ask then, but we gotta join now."

[Allen:] "What's the hurry?"

[Sandler:] "There's a girl I wanna meet there, what the f**k's your problem?"

[Allen:] "Well, I mean I don't really have to believe in this stuff, do I?"

[Sandler:] "No, no, just f**kin' tell everybody you believe in this shit -- when they say the sun sucks, go, "Yeah, f**k the sun, I f**kin' hate it too, long live the f**kin' beast."

[Allen:] "I don't know, man. This is crazy."

[Sandler:] "Look, they're gonna give you clothers, a free haircut, you're gonna get food --"

[Allen:] "-- it's not gonna be one of those weird haircuts, is it?"

[Sandler:] "It's gonna be a haircut, all right? You said you need a haircut, they're gonna f**kin' cut your hair. You're going in, saving twelve bucks, just f**kin' do it!"

[Allen:] "Do you think the hot girl has a friend for me?"

[Sandler:] "Yeah, sure, and if she doesn't, she'll go out and recruit one for you!"

the ones in our house were put in when we had an extension added onto the house.

Were they part of the new construction? They tend to last longer than retrofit skylights.

Are you certain they are still watertight? They can leak along the roof truss, soaking insulation but not enough to appear inside your home.

or just people doing something that is intentionally bizarre.

my favourite qoute:

First you lay down your grapes and your kiwis on the surface of the cutting board. Then you offer up a silent oath to the "Juice Spirit" who presides and conducts you through the juice ritual. Then you slam the cricket bat down on the fruit. Instant juice!

Eventually, yes. No matter how well you seal it eventually it will fail. A salesman will tell you otherwise.

really?

the ones in our house were put in when we had an extension added onto the house. that was a good 16 years ago, havent had a leak yet (this is in the UK, land of rain).

Just to ask, could anyone explain the in-joke about all these reviews? They are definitely funny and clever, but I'm just curious if there is more to it (i.e. something specific that spawned this), or just people doing something that is intentionally bizarre.

Do they always leak? Even the non-opening ones?

Eventually, yes. No matter how well you seal it eventually it will fail. A salesman will tell you otherwise.

I'm not a big fan of making what could be considered non-necessary. I agree though, they are very tempting in theory.
