Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. Reports Second Quarter Fiscal 2004 Financial Results (thanks Frans) reports the same net loss as last year's net gain and mentions one previously unannounced title, "Ford Mustang: 40th Anniversary Edition." Also, EA studio reshuffles lead to up to 117 layoffs (thanks Mike Martinez) has word on a shakeup at EA: "The two major changes responsible for the job losses are the relocation of Walnut Creek, California based Maxis to the Redwood Shores facility, and the closure of the Austin, Texas based Origin Systems."

Either EA is making some bad decisions(shutting down owned game studios and moving them) or they're doing really terrible in terms of profit and game sales(reason for all the layoffs)

Well, they haven't put out a Sims expansion lately...

A Wing Commander, Avatar, King, bid farewell to the end of a era, not to mention all the people from Maxis.

RIP Maxis and Origin.

Well, I was one of the devs on UXO. I cant comment on numbers at all or wether the Origin name is staying. I just wanted to make sure that people knew it wasnt an actuall shut down, but really a relocation. The office / building in austin, yes, shutdown, I live around the corner from it, and remember driving by the day I saw the for sale sign go up.

I can say that I know of several people who are still in town that I worked with. =)

...and a lot of the devs decided not to make the trek to California, but instead to stay in Austin (I can't blame them for that). I know their online game Ultima X has really suffered from the relocation.

Well technically Origin was relocated to Redwood. In fact while I was still there, they were discussing wether to use the origin name or not still.

Man, Take-Two cut their earnings estimate for this quarter by 50 million dollars. Wonder what got delayed.

You're kidding, right (about what got delayed)?

I guess that's the last we'll ever hear about one of the best game-crafters ever.
