Duke Nukem Forever Release Update on TotalVideoGames (thanks Mike Martinez)
is another of those occasional pot-stirring stories about the long-time
in-development shooter, based on a quote that was attempting to do just the
opposite. The story reproduces a quote from 3D Realms' George Broussard
explaining why they are staying low-key at this time, as he reveals that they
are still not that close to completion:
“IMO, it's more abusive to the
community to continue to talk about and show the game when it's not real close
to release. What's the point of leading people on? The best thing we can, and
should do, is to shut up, finish the game and start showing it and talking about
it when it's near enough release that people can actually see light at the end
of the tunnel.”
I think he's hiding the fact that a major info spill on DNF will be coming out next month. Why do I say this you ask?
A: PC Gamer stated that next month they "want to tell you all about the earth-shaking exclusive we've got lined up for next issue. On the other hand, it's such a massive secret, it makes the Manhattan Project look like a gardening club." - Major earth shattering secret? Sounds like a marketting ploy to me, but it still must be pretty big... hmm... what could be big besides Doom3/HL2 that hasn't already been mentioned... well, they do mention the Manhattan Project. That's quite the hint as the last Duke Nukem game was called the Manhattan Project. My bet: DNF
B: Every thread created talking about the same topic I'm typing about (Next month's PCGAMER) is being deleted by 3DRealms officials at their main message board. Odd? Indeed...
Stupid cover ups. It'll be out no later than the end of summer of 2005. My bet anywyas.
Would GB get near as much flack (or Gabe Newell for that matter) if he wasn't fat? No dev OWES us anything! It's not like we already paid for the game and it never came out with no refund. Just take it easy. Patience...
nobody owes anybody anything... thats why people are free to do as they wish, which includes insulting a moronic game developer as much as they want

"we've had half life 2 leaks and doom3 leaks and world of warcraft leaks.. why cant someone leak duke nukem forever so we can take a look at it?"
As someone who just recently saw the E3 demo for the FIRST time a few months back, I gotta say they are probably doing the right thing not releasing whatever they had then, now. A few years ago I can see where it must have looked mind-blowing. By today's standards, it looks like crap- trust me. They really don't have a choice but to upgarde the engine, etc. But if that version did get released or leaked now, it would probably be a good thing because I don't think seeing a DNF news post would generate any excitement anymore.
The saddest part of the whole DNF fiasco is that DN3D was such a cool game, and we'd all love to get our hands on a sequel. That's why posts from GB piss us all off, bcs we see him as the guy standing in the way.
Someone should buy the rights from 3DRealms and do the sequel for the fans, instead of these retards at the helm.
A 7-year-and-counting development cycle? Who are they kidding? id developed Doom 3 from scratch in 4 years and counting .. c'mon 3DRealms, sell it off already and let a real developer bring back old Duke from the dead.
Frankly, I'm getting tired of DNF news posts that reveal nothing and really serve no purpose other than to get people round-up. I say, until there's some REAL news, don't post anything about it.
I get tired of people who don't understand proper english... it's WOUND-UP.
On topic-I highly doubt anybody has touched a single piece of DNF code in years. My bet is on the fact that they realized that there was no ROI in DNF and gave up. Maybe the title will be optioned to someone else down the road as it doesn't appear the current programming force (if one exists) has any idea what they are doing. Jesus, by now I could have written DNF... hmm, new project. I've got the Bruce Campbell movies on DVD so there is all the audio I need!
