On DNF

The Duke Nukem Forever Release Update on TotalVideoGames (thanks Mike Martinez) is another of those occasional pot-stirring stories about the long-time in-development shooter, based on a quote that was attempting to do just the opposite. The story reproduces a quote from 3D Realms' George Broussard explaining why they are staying low-key at this time, as he reveals that they are still not that close to completion:
“IMO, it's more abusive to the community to continue to talk about and show the game when it's not real close to release. What's the point of leading people on? The best thing we can, and should do, is to shut up, finish the game and start showing it and talking about it when it's near enough release that people can actually see light at the end of the tunnel.”

Guys, using my own detective skills ive come to a startling conlusion about our friend George Broussard....

He is STALKNIG HALLE BARRY!!!!!!!

and I quote:

"Berry has claimed that Broussard has tried to contact her repeatedly and has imagined a relationship with her."

george; greg ..meh.. same difference...

jesus..george.. i mean seriously... i would of expected this from maybe.. cliffyb or some qumquat.. but.. youre supposed to be 'professional' ..why do this now? when youre.. budding so well on DNF development... for shame george..

Max Payne would blow off Duke Nukem's brainless head.

hmmm... would be nice to have another Max Payne game. Maybe it should be a real FPS. Not the usual third.

I gave up on ever expecting to see this game on shelves 3 years ago. Into the same dustbin of history as such vapourware classics as Monster Island and Justice League of America.

These threads are still good for a laugh tho'

Why?! Do you really think that your ability to masturbate over her will be impaired by a few less triangles? If you play video games to satisfy your libido, I have some news for you. There is much better and more realistic media available for that sort of thing than video games.

(I haven't read through all of these messages, so excuse me if this has already been stated.)

The problem with Duke Nukem Forever is simply that 3D Realms keeps switching engines because it fears the game won't look better than everything else out when its released. What the company should have done is simply finished what it had started and not worried about trying to best the look of every new game coming out.

Even if 3DRealms had stuck with the Quake 2 engine it originally chose, it could still have made a respectable game with it. Quake 1 & 2 engine mods like Tenebrae and Quake2Max clearly demonstrate that even an old engine can be retrofitted to look good.

From a financial perspective, it would have been much better for 3DRealms to release 3 or 4 lesser Duke Nukem PC games over this time that try to make one "killer title."

The bottom line is that Duke Nukem Forever won't ever be released because there is some other game which will always be better looking just around the corner.

"...everyone on this board wants to play it (DNF) as badly as D3 and HL2."

I highly doubt the varacity of this statement. I have little, if any desire to play DNF. I suspect many here have similar feelings.
I'm not even really here.

Kenneth Silverman.

While he did a good job with BUILD...Direct X is a COMPLETELY different subject and as far as I know from reading his site a few months back, he isnt too much into 3d programming. BUILD itself was just supposed to be a Wolf3D clone.

Would GB get near as much flack (or Gabe Newell for that matter) if he wasn't fat?

I'm quite positive nobody cares if these guys weigh 900 lbs., eat 3 turkeys a day, and need a crane to get out of bed in the morning...;) What they care about is the games that the "fat bastards" keep promising but failing to deliver...;) The blubber is ancillary to the criticisms, trust me...;) Had the games shipped as promised, and delivered the promised content, these guys would be indistinguishable from the Governor of "KALIFORNIA" in terms of their hero status. The problem is self-announced deadlines not met, public pledges not kept, and their swaddling flesh has nothing to do with it.

In George's case, I only wonder if there will be anyone left alive on planet earth who remembers the Duke when he decides to publish...;) My advice to GB is twofold: don't be bashful; and, once you pick a 3d engine stay with it, George, to the bitter end--because in the end it won't be the engine, but the content of the game instead, that will make or break the effort.

It is well known that I don't make mistakes--so, if you should happen across an error in something I have written, you can be confident in the fact that *I* did not write it.
