On DNF

The Duke Nukem Forever Release Update on TotalVideoGames (thanks Mike Martinez) is another of those occasional pot-stirring stories about the long-time in-development shooter, based on a quote that was attempting to do just the opposite. The story reproduces a quote from 3D Realms' George Broussard explaining why they are staying low-key at this time, as he reveals that they are still not that close to completion:
“IMO, it's more abusive to the community to continue to talk about and show the game when it's not real close to release. What's the point of leading people on? The best thing we can, and should do, is to shut up, finish the game and start showing it and talking about it when it's near enough release that people can actually see light at the end of the tunnel.”

At this point, they should continue to refuse to comment. Instead, they should just release the game and not say anything. So you just happent to be in Fry's and see it there on the shelf. That's the only way they could possibly redeem themselves at this point.

This is a load of bullshit...Period....
There is no DNF, there will never be, 3dRealms have ceased to exist years ago except on paper. Its just that their demise was a lot more quiet than for e.g. Interplays. Their money ran out, and production stopped after endless delays and engine switching. This comment is just a TotalVideoGames media stir up. Nothing more, nothing less.

My question is: where in the world do they get the apparently Endless supply of money for this project???

- Staff salary/hw,sw tools/offices all cost Big money
- Profits from previous games dried up y-e-a-r-s ago
- Angels/vulture kapitalists normally demand SOME kind of Plan for a return on investment
- How many squidillions of copies will they need to sell just to break even

Who keeps shoveling literally $MILLIONS$ into this bottomless pit every year... with apparently NO requirement (or hope) of ever making their money back, let alone making a profit?

I mean, is Broussard's grandma a Billionaire who just hands Georgie a blank check each year for Christmas, or what?

Much like I said about Gabe Newell, these guys need to sit down, shut up, stop doing press tours and finish the damn games! George says he wants to stop leading people on, but he does it in an interview talking about the game! Get it done and then talk about it. All you are doing with this method is aggravating the community who already thinks you are a laughing stock.

Frankly, I'm getting tired of DNF news posts that reveal nothing and really serve no purpose other than to get people round-up. I say, until there's some REAL news, don't post anything about it.

I get tired of people who don't understand proper english... it's WOUND-UP.

On topic-I highly doubt anybody has touched a single piece of DNF code in years. My bet is on the fact that they realized that there was no ROI in DNF and gave up. Maybe the title will be optioned to someone else down the road as it doesn't appear the current programming force (if one exists) has any idea what they are doing. Jesus, by now I could have written DNF... hmm, new project. I've got the Bruce Campbell movies on DVD so there is all the audio I need!

The saddest part of the whole DNF fiasco is that DN3D was such a cool game, and we'd all love to get our hands on a sequel. That's why posts from GB piss us all off, bcs we see him as the guy standing in the way.

Someone should buy the rights from 3DRealms and do the sequel for the fans, instead of these retards at the helm.

A 7-year-and-counting development cycle? Who are they kidding? id developed Doom 3 from scratch in 4 years and counting .. c'mon 3DRealms, sell it off already and let a real developer bring back old Duke from the dead.

They probably moved onto the new Unreal engine - that would explain the delay and why they couldn't/can't release screenshots.

You know how the Duke team loves their unreal engines

"we've had half life 2 leaks and doom3 leaks and world of warcraft leaks.. why cant someone leak duke nukem forever so we can take a look at it?"

As someone who just recently saw the E3 demo for the FIRST time a few months back, I gotta say they are probably doing the right thing not releasing whatever they had then, now.
A few years ago I can see where it must have looked mind-blowing.
By today's standards, it looks like crap- trust me.
They really don't have a choice but to upgarde the engine, etc.
But if that version did get released or leaked now, it would probably be a good thing because I don't think seeing a DNF news post would generate any excitement anymore.

Would GB get near as much flack (or Gabe Newell for that matter) if he wasn't fat?

We dislike all people that talk shit and then can't back it up. That includes the 2 you mentioned, as well as (Derek Smart, Derek Smart) Derek Smart.

How many years has this game supposedly been in development again?

How many times have they restarted from scratch?

Unless they got some serious mind blowing goodness in store for us, it will be a let down no matter how good or Duke-ish it is.

Would GB get near as much flack (or Gabe Newell for that matter) if he wasn't fat? No dev OWES us anything! It's not like we already paid for the game and it never came out with no refund. Just take it easy. Patience...
