Out of the Blue

Wow, and another Sopranos season sleeps with the fishes. Now it's time to start looking for the news reports revealing how long we will have to wait for the (presumably) final season of the series. Sadly, there is but one more episode of Deadwood in this season, set up by last night's penultimate show, easily the series' most surreal to date. The Sopranos' tendency to take more than a year to produce a season aside, I don't imagine that it will be shown back-to-back with Deadwood next time around, given how related the two amoral shows are... just seems like too many eggs in one basket there.

Snag the song "Night in Question" (really sweet tune). I doubt the youngsters will much care for their music (sort of like The Band meets the Allman Brothers meets the Grateful dead but slightly more contemporary), but the older crowd should like it. Great summer BBQ music. Support indy music!

Took me about 5 minutes to figure it out. I'd have to also say that the name is what helped me figure it out, until I read the background I was making it far too complicated.

SST:I have yet to see more than 5 minutes of any episode

SDT:I've seen every episode 2 or 3 times, and love the show. Can't figure out how it seems to have fallen off of everyone else's radar--since it was here that I first heard about the show. I've even been known to pass up Sunday night parties to watch Deadwood (okay, that was only once, but still...)

Having not read the spoiler I'm told is in this thread yet.
I figured it out in an hour or so once I got home from work and could sit and hit roll over and over again. I remembered having the same problem thrown at me in the past but I couldn't remember the solution. Its easily forgotten because its basicly the punch line to a bad joke, its just that its presented like a logic problem.

It seems Deadwood has lost alot of peoples interest, not sure I understand why, the show is simply amazing with its gritty and raw look at the old west.

Ian McShane is down right brilliant as Al Swearengen. He steals the show almost every episode, but Brad Dourif (can you believe this is Wormtongue?) and Powers Boothe are truly amazing as well.. Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Dramatic series next year? I think so. Maybe even Brad Dourif for best supporting actor...

I don't want them to mirror any more

Ah... well, you'll need to investigate the IDE interfaces and the BIOS on that box then. I'm still betting it can't take any really large drives w/o a problem. It'll most likely fail to recognize any drives >128GiB (aka >137 GB). There may be a BIOS update available to fix the issue, or you may be SOL (at least, if you use Windows. If you use Linux and the boot partition is in the area of the drive readable by the BIOS then Linux will happily read the entire drive, regardless of what the brain dead BIOS claims).

First up, cheers Zathrus.
My first concern would be having it in the garage...
Garage is a bit of a misnoma - it's the upstairs of a barn we recently built, the downstairs of which is a garage, the upstairs is just like any other room of the house - heated, sealed etc, and when we had it converted we had an ethernet line to the house plumbed in too.
and you won't need any software tricks to do the mirroring
I don't want them to mirror any more. That was just a backup thing it used to do when installed at the office - the network would automatically back itself up every evening. I just want an enormous hard disk (or two) that people can bring their laptops to, plug into our hub/router, and drag and drop files to.

Will investigate Samsung drives.

Thanks again mate!

Edit: Got the petals game... heh that took a bit of scratching.

I immediately Got what the Trick (which is hinted at by the name) was Supposed to be. Yet even knowing the answer, it took forever to come up with the algorithm because the name of the game is (intentionally?) incorrect.

Rather than
Petals Around the Rose
it should be
Petals Around the Roses
or simply
Rose Petals

Reason: Since the name is intended to be significant to the game, then it, like the answer, has to be correct . Otherwise you may as well just call the game BoxCar or SnakeEye or Sphincter and REALLY mislead people.

Due to this flaw, this is NOT a good example of "how different people look at the world differently" or "the problem is how we define the problem".

I'm confident that JR "Bob" Dobbs, Church of the SubGenius, would agree with me on this point.

HA HA HA - classic, Enahs!

Classic move your self, cutting apart my quote so it fits what you want it to say. Perhaps you should quote the entire thing.

Well, if you just wouldn't insult people it wouldn't be a problem

It is called pointing out someone’s futile and silly attempt at ignoring the argument by doing the same thing. I made it clear that is what I was doing nor did I truly believe it (at the time mind you). But it is easier to ignore that part, as it allowed him to bow out of the argument without admitting that I had a clearly logical point to make that disagreed with his. The sad part is I again apologized for not making that clear (enough), but instead of the great humanitarian he claims and wishes everyone else to be, he could not see fit to forgive and forget something as silly as that.

That is freaky. After the second one I would've deeply suspected the controller on the MB as being bad. In fact, I'm still suspecting it right now!

I would/did to. Only, it was in a computer that I have been using the SATA and EIDE ports for a good bit now, with no trouble. And the new one that is finally working, seems to be working perfectly.

most of the time was arguing about taxes and being accused of insulting someone when I did not!

Well, if you just wouldn't insult people it wouldn't be a problem

I have never had 4 hard drives in a row be bad!

That is freaky. After the second one I would've deeply suspected the controller on the MB as being bad. In fact, I'm still suspecting it right now!

so now I can not drink nothing but water for a freakin month.

Eh, it's better for you anyway

Oh... and on the tax thing (I know you didn't say this)... yeah, that marraige tax break rocks. First year of our marraige our tax burdon decreased by -$6000. Who knows how much of a "break" it would've been if our net income hadn't gone down by >$10k. And to think of all the lovely tax breaks we suddenly become inelligible for! Ah, yes... I can see why people stay in "fake" marraiges for the tax break. Makes perfect sense.
