Out of the Blue

Hey! It's 06/05/04 today, at least in typical American notation... What say we all wait until exactly 3:21:00 and all simultaneously shout "blastoff!" Oh well, maybe not... especially since that would have been more appropriate at 3:21 a.m. Well, appropriate is probably the wrong word to use there either... Hmmm, nevermind.

Where did I -ever- claim to be left-wing whatever? On the 'Edge'? I didn't realize you knew me so well. I guess I have nothing to do with politics in my everyday life. Label away so you can subconsciously write off what you don't want to deal with.

Twisting ideas? What am I twisting? I'm saying Halsy has just as much right to express his thoughts as anyone else without getting jumped for it. At least I use history and fact in what I say and not some limp bravado to strike down a comment someone had the courage to make.

As for disliking policies, I'm sorry, but using the highest office in the land to fatten your defense industry friends (hey, like your vice president, Mr. Bush!) and to illegally sell arms, drugs, and initiate death squads and coups all over South America is a bit more than dislike over a tax on alchohol or defunding a public works program.

I'd like to see you list all the great things Reagan actually did that didn't benefit his friends in the defense industry so we can contrast it with the things he should have been jailed for. I will admit, he did do some good things as far as education towards the end. Too bad that went to hell when Bush Sr. took office.

You know, Ho Chi Minh was a nice guy. He was a great Confucian teacher before his political life, loved by the Vietnamese because of all that he did for them, he became a communist (after his time in the Soviet Union after lobbying the US for support failed) to help all of his countrymen gain independence from France. When Uncle Ho died, his country wept. I don't think a great deal of people in the US and Europe exactly mourned when he died.

Perspective and the power of revisionist history is everything. I'm sure the people of Venezuela feel about Reagan the same as most of the US felt about Uncle Ho...

Waiting for a communist label now!

Er...did you not just libel a huge amount of people with your "legendary compassion" comment?

I think I would need to specificly name someone in order to libel them...

Right before commenting on your sickness of the political spectrum?

I am sick. I'm sick of the edges, the fringe, the people that see no wrong in their heroes and no right in the oppositions.

People are not instanly jerks for being right-wing or left-wing.

No doubt. Those at the far left and far right ... I'm not so sure anymore.

Only for ever disagreeing with me...

Who would do something silly like that?

However, I can list a few thousand people more deserving of reverence (guilt, pity?) than a man and his record of betraying the trusts of the offices he held.

Please, there is a world of difference in disliking someone's policies and politics and saying "it's a good day when they die." Try to not overstate and twist what people here are reacting to when they criticize what Halsy said...as far as I can tell no one has even tried to defend Reagan's ideas. They only (and rightfully so) said that Halsy's words were inappropriate.

Anyway, that said, yeah people get diseases and die. That's a bad thing, horrible when it happens, and a fact of life. However, I can list a few thousand people more deserving of reverence (guilt, pity?) than a man and his record of betraying the trusts of the offices he held.

More of that legendary compassion and understanding we can expect from left wingers right? Good to see that for the most part they have so much more of that in themselves.

The guy did some pretty amazing things during his term in office. I don't agree with everything he did...I can still give hims some credit.

More and more, people that live on the edges of the political spectrum make me sick.

Get an idea of how many people have fallen for the whole sympathy bit? Truly amazing. Maybe we should look back at what this poor olde disease afflicted man did, just in general:

Record tax breaks for the rich (sound familiar?)

Polices that sank the economy, lowered the standards and benefits of 90% of American workers, and raised unemployement (sound familiar?).

Trickle down economics: all the money the richest 3% will save in taxes will be spent and revitalize the economy for the average citizen (sound familiar?).

Policies and improper relationships that blurred the lines between politics and corporate agendas (sound familiar?).

Policies that made criminals of previously law-abiding citizens through a FEAR inspiring War on Drugs election strategy (sound familiar?).

Iran Contra: where to begin? What kind of a sham were the hearings and how many of the players that escaped prosecution have popped up in Bush's circle of friends and the War on Terror? Rumsfeld... Cheney... Dick Armey... Cesar Conda... I don't think Blue has enough server space to list all the connections.

Anyway, that said, yeah people get diseases and die. That's a bad thing, horrible when it happens, and a fact of life. However, I can list a few thousand people more deserving of reverence (guilt, pity?) than a man and his record of betraying the trusts of the offices he held.

And just to head off a few people early, Reagan was accused about misdeeds in other positions as early as 1952. Here's one for the history books:

Christ, Halsy...why do you have to say something that dumb? I often agree with your politics, but you do a serious disservice to other liberals when you are so pointlessly mean.
Keep it up and the true liberals are going to vote you out as the resident Blue's News flamewar liberal. (But, at this rate I am sure you could find a place in the "compassionate conservative" camp.)

Wow. That's first headline of it's type I've seen on CNN since 9/11.

I didn't like Reagan's politics whatsoever but I don't think he was a bad person. I think the superlatives being thrown around by the conservatives are undeserved but he did seem like a geniuinely decent man. It's too bad he had to go the way he did. Alzheimer's is a nasty disease.

And it is rather nasty to be happy about someone dying. That's low.

Cassini, carrying the European-built Huygens probe
Was it some joint European effort, or a generalization. I guess its like how we say Latin America.

Most (if not all) space programs in Europe are produced/funded by the ESA (European Space Agency) so "yes" it is a joint European effort.
The parts are usually built in different countries, and then combined to make one vehicle or probe.
