H&D2: Sabre Squadron Unveiled

Frans sends along the fact sheet for a Hidden & Dangerous 2 expansion that was included in the Gathering's E3 brochure, though the project itself was not being demonstrated at the show. Here's the deal on Hidden & Dangerous 2: Sabre Squadron, due this fall:
Hidden & Dangerous 2: Sabre Squadron
Developer: Illusion Softworks
Genre: First/third-person squad-based tactical shooter
Platform: PC
Ship date: Fall 2004

Formed in 1940 to cause havoc and mayhem behind enemy lines, the British Special Air Service soon became some of the most feared troops on the battlefield. Now you can join the ranks of the SAS and command a squad of these highly trained, lethal soldiers. Sneak past enemy lines, infiltrate heavily guarded bases and outposts, and utilize superior tactics to eliminate the opposition.

Hidden & Dangerous 2: Sabre Squadron is an expansion module to Hidden & Dangerous 2, which was released on PC in October of 2003.

* Play through nine new single-player missions.
* Three new multiplayer missions.
* New weapons including: the German Panzerschreck (bazooka), SAS flare gun, the French MAS MLE 36 (used by the Resistance), Parabellum with silencer, and the German G43 rifle.
* Improved AI - enemies and squad members will react realistically to different situations; they will run for cover, set up ambushes and do what they can to preserve their lives.

so everyone who disagree with you is fanboy? *rolleyes*

I know HD2 has it's problems and is not million selling popular game like COD/MOH/BF, but small community is on the whole friendly, there are no cheats to worry (moan)about

if you took game back you wont know what server situation now.... is true it's not much different from release in numbers but who cares, I can always find good server when I want so why should I worry how many it sold??

millions doesn't always mean better, look at Delta Force BHD, that was s**t

Well I think it's a flop and judging by sales and intrest on-line I would say that all none fan boys will agree with me.

I want a wide choice of servers to play, I may want to play CTF, then a game of Freeze tag, then Objective, then TDM and even DM. MOH and BFV give me a huge selection of servers, H&D2 has no selection. I am UK based and was lucky to find 1 good server, infact I had to play on Swedish servers. It's a joke and you know it.

HD2 was never going to be big multi, it was made 1st as SP game, games like MOH, COD are aimed most at online gamers and have v short scripted SP campaign, you're not comparing like with like.

its just preference, I thought MOH/COD are dull on & offline %), lots of player but not my thing, HD2 has enough servers to play whenever I want, makes no big difference if there are 1000 or 10.

dont know about H&D2 being flop, seems unlikely they would fund addon if it did so bad

Thats my point, 20 servers with 234 players and thats world wide. Sorry but thats laughable considering right now I see thousands of people playing MOH and thats been out 2 years. Sorry but H&D2 is a giant FLOP.

I rarely play SP games as I find them dull, H&D was great fun in coop, I still bought H&D2 for the other multi modes but they turned out to be a farce. I think even after 6 months you are lucky to find more than 10 servers and most are empty.

H&D2 is:

Shit multi
Laggy
buggy
boring
Better than COD (not a hard task)

H&D2 is not:

A Coop Heaven (as it should have been)
Playable for clans
Engrossing in SP
Better that MOH
Better than BF1942
Better than BFV
Better than OFP

And the addon is too little too late, I took my H&D2 back to the shop ages ago and I don't intend buying it again, regardless of coop in expansion. I ain't paying all that money to get something I was promised first time around.

stuttering movies maybe hardware, if vertical Synch isn't enabled in setup try enabling it.

H&D2 SP is very good, much better than usual dull on rails stuff of last few years (COD, MOH etc), Multi is good but still very buggy, last patch made it worse.....

lots of good games should get coop first, but after some time it starts to get to expensive or complicated for the developers(HD2, Halo, Stalker)! but its simple to make like in NWO or LineofSightVietnam. Just leave away the script bullshit or unnessecary stuff. real coop can force the lan-gamers to work together and having fun with it.
buy only games with coop and MP-bots then everybody will start to include it.

I thought it was one of the best games of the year. Lots of fun.

Ditto. Remarkable game and a refreshing follow-up at that. Yeah, co-op would have been nice, but multi-play has been fine without it. It's heads above the state H&D was upon first release, not to mention the grossly bug-riddled (and unfixed) expansion.

When I first got H&D 2, it hung on install repeatedly. Discovered it was a defective disk so I took it back. No problems after that. Had the same thing happen with Mafia.

You know selling dlc before you patch the client doesn't impress upon me the need to support your shit. -massdev

I have to say: No co-op = fuck you developers.

Even though this add-on will/may have co-op in it, that means I would have to buy 2x the software (original game + add-on) to get the experience I should have gotten with the first.

I know I'm pretty bitter about this, but no thanks assholes.

Have to agree with last comment - I picked up H&D 2 a few weeks ago, but am just now getting into it.

Very good game so far after the first campaign - tactical combat falls a little short of OFP, but overall very satisfying and complex game. Well worth your time.

This is old-school PC gaming, the kind that's become very rare in this age of the "consolized" port.

Ray, im sure they released a fix for that. I had a different problem. It installed and everything, but the movies were so jerky they were pretty much unwatchable. It's the first game that has ever given me this problem. Loads of others have the same problem as well. The Tech Support on the Illusionsoft forums is a joke so I gave up trying to fix it. A shame, I loved the first H&D.
