Out of the Blue

I watched the 10th anniversary edition of Reservoir Dogs yesterday, which has resulted in a peculiar side-effect. Since watching, the song Like a Virgin keeps running through my head. As disturbing as it is to find a wretched Madonna song haunting one's subconscious, this is that much worse. First, because the song itself doesn't actually play at any point in the movie, its invasion seems that much more insidious. Second, the context of the discussion of the tune in the movie just keeps conjuring up unfortunate imagery. *Shudder*.

I'm not sure I follow that (not that it's important, as I said, you are more than entitled to your own opinion about all this)... are you saying that one of the reasons you will continue to eat at McDonalds is because people have been recomending it to you for years? I'm also slightly curious that you thought this would get you to swear off fast food by being like The Jungle if The Jungle itself didn't get you to swear off meat either?

Heh, that didn't come out written right I suppose. I meant to say I've been reading Blue's News since the beginning, back when it was at panix.com. So in the 8 years (or so) I've been reading your site, I've pretty much agreed with things you've recommended. Especially your chili recipie (I now make that thing every couple months cause it's so good). So one time of not agreeing with something you've recommended out of 8 years isn't so bad.

But back to the issue, I did have a slight expectation that it would gross me out enough to say "No more McDonalds ever again because they do X to the meat", where X is something horribly gross that they try to hide from the public. Again, my expectation might have been overinflated because of all the reviews I've read from other people after they read the book saying "No more McD's for me after reading this".

The reason I thought it might cause me to swear off when "The Jungle" didn't is because I assumed that the conditions as described in "The Jungle" were a thing of the past. While there are still problems on some line as described in FFN, they didn't seem as horrible as they were described in "The Jungle". (I picked up the new Uncensored Edition of "The Jungle" last night to refresh my memory since it has been awhile, just to see if my memories of the book are correct, plus to read up on what was missing from the original. So if I'm wrong, I'll be re-learning soon.)

That's phrased like you think you have painted me into some sort of logical corner. The answer is, I probably would not, but that's not to say I definitely wouldn't... I've taken no vows in this regard. I would definitely be wary of the mystery meat, even were it a Hebrew National or a Sabretts, but I am not a vegitarian, and still do eat whatever I feel like.

I know you are a big Giants fan like myself Blue, so the hotdog question was more of a curiosity rather than a logical zinger. I always enjoy the stadium dogs when I'm there, so I was just curious if reading the book had affected your desire for those as well.
"TK-421, why aren't you at your post?"
