If we're talking porting HL mods to Source, then I'd love to see an updated version of "They Hunger." In fact, with some of the creepy atmosphere in the video, it kind of reminded me of TH a little bit...

Not to get too off-topic but I totally agree, Capt. The whole idea of a coop FPRPG like STALKER in that kind of environment is, um, quite nice.

Hoping Svencoop for Half-Life makes it way to Source. They announced something about that team being the team to implement coop a while ago, correct?

we'll see about it man, Im all for the HL2 multiplayer... but single player games need ALOT of depth IMO... thats why I love RPGS...

so Im more interested in games like STALKER and Xenus for the single player FPS thing...

if HL2 can pull off a totally badass plot then they might redeem themselves - but standards these days are different than they were in '98

and everyone seems to be complaining about how good or not the source engine looks, but im just looking forward to seeing how gordon got to where he is and to learn a bit more about the g-man. *shrugs*

Wouldn't CS2 just be a port of the original anyway? I mean, what more in terms of functionality does the game really need? Just bring it over to the new engine, set up the basics, and do the same thing they did the first time around: turn mapping tools over to the community and let it run wild...

Try this torrent:

http://66.90.75.92/suprnova//torrents/1735/hl2_fulldemo_e32004-zip.torrent

I downloaded it from there, it is from both booths, runs 25 minutes, is Cam but not ShakyCam, doesn't pixelate and just blows. It is 650 Megs, though...

NS ported for Source?
A month ago, it sounded like it would never happen: Flay just wasn't into it. Now though.... looks like he was impressed:

Maybe, just maybe, paying for it will stop the kids that TK/stand in doors/scream misspelled obscenities.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking and I'll still learn to hate the game.

Well, they are definately shipping this summer and I'm quite interested in who will win the most games of the year between Doom3 & HL2.

The shaky cam movie was pretty long, pretty terrible for viewing, yet showed a lot more in the implementation of minute details than I had believed before. I think that this series of delays was to our benefit.

Most importantly, Valve seems to have upgraded everything Half-life to HL2. So HL1 is going to be on HL2. Counter-strike of course. Team Fortress 1. It's pretty incredible.

So far, if I had to make a choice, I would have to go with HL2 because they are giving far more game content to us.

The game itself appears to have a slightly different flavor to it and looks to be more compatible than ever for mid-range systems which should really appeal to the average gamer. At this point, I'm willing to release my old preconceived notions on the Valve team and give this a star of approval because it really seems to be a bigger game with lots to do if you just want to walk around.

One of the more interesting things I saw was how the "police" seemed to be interested in Gordon as he passed the room that they had broken into. One of the cops came out and started saying something to him and Gordon ran upstairs to elude him. Later, of course, he's fighting them, so they must not be nice cops.

The other thing that captured my attention was the Valve seemed to drop their PG-13 rating and go for a more mature presentation. Gordon is flinging disc-cogs and cutting zombies in half, burning them up with fire so that they scream in agony, and meets up with a pair of hanging legs in some bizaare twist of cruelty of a previous torture and mutilation, which he of course attacks just because he can.

Another note of interest was how many people are out fighting the menace along side you or just revolting in unison as you deal with a life inside city 17. Incidentally, City 17 is a reference to the old Soviet Union's version of Las Alamos. You can look it up. They had a name for it, and they also gave it the name City 17.

The last thing that got me was how incredibly strong the striders are. Meeting one that focuses its attention on you is not going to be a nice thing to deal with.

Newell did not mention whether the reworked H-L content would be distributed via Valve's Steam delivery service, retail discs, or both.

The above is from Gamespot. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halflife2/news_6098022.html

Personally I think the Eurogamer guy is jumping to conclusions.

What I want is NS on source. Now that'd be sweet. Skulks having their sensory cloaking kicking in does a predator effect, the hives are slimy and slightly reflect, physics mean that when stupid marines build a turret factory on a railing it would fall over into a pit... Now that'd be badass.

We can dream. Maybe Flayra will be so bowled over by Source he’ll give it a go, although to make it worthwhile most of the game would have to be redone to take advantage of the new engine. I get the feeling he’s had enough of spending years making NS for free. I hope he gets a commercial project off the ground soon.

When quizzed, he said that the game would not be a free update, but would in fact be released commercially via retail and for download via Steam at the same time as Half-Life 2, at the end of this summer.

Sorry but Im not taking this persons word for it. There were plenty of other people there today to hear what Gabe said...why is this person the only one saying this?

Part of what Gabe said was on the Shakey Cam video, and he did not say it would be a retail product, but he also didnt say it would be free, or in the box...he simply said it would be available about the same time.

I'll wait and see what an official source announces (and Im sure it will be soon), but based on their past record, I'd bet its a free download to bring in even more buyers of Half Life 2. They have been extremely successful with the business model of HL owners playing the mods for free, but also having a stand alone retail version. We shall see though.

Hell, they could have just done the source conversion to the original and called it Half Life2, I'd have been first in line!

I'm looking forward to that more than Half Life2, now... that kinda scares me...

/Bah!

I just want DoD!

Anyway, if this is not Counterstrike 2, one would certainly think that Counterstrike 2 would be a seperate retail release, especially given the time and technology invested in it.

Up for a source-enhanced Half-Life,
Ray
